I agree with Theconomist here. IMO as great as La Masia's record at producing players for our first team, any so called 'future plans' for youngsters who are still playing with B team or lower teams should be dropped immediately. We should let them grow at their own pace. This is crucial during their learning stages. So as for Grimaldo, well he surely has potential, but he should not feature in our plans for the first team yet. Not even for future plans.

About Alba, well if we can get him for 15ME, that will be great. Lahm will not just be too expensive, I don't think neither Bayern nor Lahm will be very interested.

Of course you agree with me(not being arrogant) but I am pretty sure no one in the club's hierarchy is thinking oh let's get some random left back to be a filler for FOUR godamn years just in case that 16 year old kid who's not even playing for the B team regularly turns out to be the next big thing.

Alba is the most likely player we'll get I'm okay with that but it's just not an ideal option. It won't be an improvement on Adriano it'll just be depth.

It would be an improvement because atleast Tito won't have to sub him in the 70th minute of every game, fearing that he will get injured again.

Barca are apparently not willing to pay Alba's asking price of 15mill, they will pay a maximum of 12mill. Id take him for 12 mill.

To be honest its actually hard to really improve upon what we do have now. Question is, who can we buy? Which option is affordable? Yes Lahm will be a significant upgrade for our left back department. But can we afford him? Gotta admit that I'm not the club's accountant, but I think it is easy to see that we've been a bit too stretched with our spending since Ibra's transfer.

For me, we should give priority to CB department as our big money deal. If we can fill the gap left by Abidal, I think Alba is good enough, provided that he comes in cheap of course :blush:

For 12-15mi, he'd be a great buy. The lb market doesn't have many options, anyway.

Defensively not as good as Abidal though. However for that left flank he'll do a job for you, I just think defensively you'll be exposed time and again if you don't address the problems you had last season, and I don't see Alba rectifying that. Even though offensively he is good, technically he is good and can fit into your system I do not think he is great defensively.

Finding a ready made replacement for Abidal in our system will always be a tough tough job.

Yes our new left back must have certain, obvious qualities. But the most important quality the new guy must have is the intelligence to learn something new, because Barca's system is so different compared to other system. Now I'm not saying Alba is the most intelligent LB around (that depends on how the scouting team evaluate him), but the reason I'd pick him are:

1) He was originally from La Masia, although that was fairly a long time ago;

2) Still, he's been brought up in La Liga, so he's probably more attuned to our slower, indirect gameplay;

3) He's being integrated into Spanish NT right now, playing alongside Barca players, so he might already have the idea to play in Barca's style;

4) Well, again, he may come cheap :p

So, question is what if Valencia demand 25ME later on? I say I will still buy him, provided that Tito thinks a new CB isn't necessary.

At least looking for a new LB is actually much easier job than looking for a CB. We still have options for LBs, for CBs on the other hand....I honestly can't think of any so called world class CBs available.

Besides alba we have no option for a LB
CB is an easy one , I am sure we are scouting at least 5 different CBs atm.
