Bojan has played crap in the U-21's...i'd hardly play that means he's not good enough to be in our squad, or even our team, i'd instead look towards the performances he made against Mallorca and Depor, the teams you say performance dont matter against, but teams like them make up the vast majority of the calendar, and are probably the most important games...You cant win a championship winning just against Real, Villarreal and Sevilla, you win it against the Depor's and Mallorca's...

I never said anything along the lines that Matas performances against Mallorca and Depor don't matter. And I'm well aware of how our calender looks like and that you can't "win a championship winning just against Real, Villarreal and Sevilla". OK, he played well against teams like Mallorca and Depor but I didn't say otherwise. But I said that I haven't seen him play against a CL team in the semifinals (just like some other people in this thread are remarking).

But the point is NEITHER has Silva. Silva played in a quarter final, scored a good goal and did naff all else. If teams went and bought players on how they do in a CL Semi-final you could discount 99.99% of top players...hell, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta would never have gotten promoted into our team because they hadn't played CL semi finals, just to emphasise that point.

Really, Mata has done alright against the big teams in La Liga...he has been consistantly good...You haven't seen him play against a CL team in the semi's? well people haven't seen Silva do it either bar once moment of brilliance two years ago in a Quarter final that masked two poor displays...

From what Pep said it does seem we are looking for depth, not a starter Beast. At least someone who can develop into a starter eventually. When you think of it if one of our front 3 got injured this season we would of been fucked...and almost were when Henry was out in the CL second leg...Only starter we seem to be looking for is as a striker, we seem to have toned down our targets for the LW from the likes of Ribery to those that are more manageable and can build up into beign great players (which is what we do best afterall).

Jurado, Filipe, Mata, Luis Suarez, Bruno Alves, Chyhrynskyi, Bruno Saltor, Melo, bringing back Henrique...all been linked, all more squad players than starters. An on form member of any of our current team could keep those lot of the same position out of the team, but then those that come will add something to the squad...

Yes I completely agree with you there Beast, that's how I posted my Barca squad for next season in the thread for that topic. Mata would be a more realistic and ideal target for Barca because Henry won't go anywhere, and they will be able to share that position. I said in my post that most likely our only big signing would be Villa, although I doubted whether he would come. Well it seems less likely that he will move anywhere now, because of recent developments. So in that way I don't think we'll sign any huge names. HOWEVER. I do believe that Laporta will want to go out with a bang on the transfer front too, so it's likely we'll get one big name like Cesc, Villa, Ribéry etc. - the one who is most readily available.

Mata i think is going to buy out his own contract to come to us, because he is by far the lowest paid player at valencia only earning 600,000 euros a year ive heard. Mata isn't world class but age is on his side and he could turn into something very special for us. He could be a replacement for Henry also, be gutted when Henry retires :sad:

Doubtful. SPORT today reported that Mata's father has a verbal agreement with València for Mata to be able to leave if a bid of 18-20m € comes in. The article states that Juan Mata Sr will put up the money himself through his management company because València won't deal with Barça after the Villa shenanigans. At the end of the day, what's the word of VCF worth? Nada.

yeah, Valencia are falling apart they need a takeover, its sad to see them go from a quality top 6 team to this, and with little money to replace the players with, this transfer window has hit them hard. Will be pretty annoying if Valencia sell Villa to Man United after the trouble we went through with him and still didnt get him.
