Mata was a great player. In the mould of a David Silva and Santi Cazorla. Just a bit worse which is not a critique towards Mata. In other words players that there is always space for at Barça. He is a great person too who does a lot of humanitarian work and he is well-liked in Spain with good reason. One of the sharper footballers as well and I remember reading about him having a blog where he was quite outspoken about various topics in the life of an elite footballer and also political topics. An interesting guy in other words.
However I have an incredible hard time believing what a 31 year old Mata could add to our team that we don't already have or that other, much younger targets, could not add.
Unless the idea is to sell Malcom and buy a versatile veteran in his place who would be content relieving Dembélé etc. from time to time. In such a case I would prefer the return of Pedro who was one of our most underrated players in the Pep era and I player that I particularly liked for his sacrifice, personality and for never creating a single problem while having played 300 times for the club and scoring 100 goals.
