No, not constantly, and yes, he deserved criticism for scoring 5 league goals in 16/17, him being great before and after 16-18 doesn't change that fact.

The same 'meme year' you talk about is one where he scored a double against Bayern to knock them out in the CL SF, and then scored in the final against you lot to win the trophy.
Even in his meme year he was clutch.

He had several years where he was not clinical and not putting up great numbers. And in those CL triumph years he was not even in the best 5 or 7 players in that Real Madrid team. Most of his teammates were more influential than him back then. A stupid mistake by Karius doesn't change that. Don't try to rewrite history. The revisionism on Benzema's career by some people recently is laughable.

I'm not rewriting any history. He had a poor year, in which he still ended up being crucial for their CL win with those goals.
He had years where he didn't break 20 league goals but he also usually didn't play a lot of minutes in those due to various reasons.
