We have to pay to get rid of Suarez most likely. Rakitic wont generate more than 20m perhaps. The Mbappe train was last summer when we had so much money we didnt know what to do with it. Its crazy to think that PSG were able to sign such an amazing opportunity in the market which came up at the perfect time when we had lost Neymar. Its rare for such opportunities to arise and these days there are very few good players available. Its even a lack of good players in football in general.

Because he would have been getting a superstar wage as one of their absolute best paid players as an 18 year old and they didnt want to take that risk in their wage structure as he had only played 20 games at senior level? i doubt it too. i'm just going off of last summer when it was alleged that both verratti and mbappe were interested in signing for barca but the club put forth no offers

of course the club was rooted in signing dembele + coutinho so that explains why.

but if by happenstance the rumors are true and he is for sale, if barca are able to use additional money from the sale of some key players on top of their allocated transfer funds then i'd just hope that they'd pull the trigger and at least make an attempt, rather than just leaving madrid to swoop him up

Having ridiculous amounts of money is just a figure of speech. It doesnt mean they literally didnt know what to do with it or that they would just give Ronaldo a new 100m a year contract. 180m and superstar wage for an 18 year old is really something they didnt want to do as other team members would also demand a higher wage as a result.

Surely, we cant compete with the amount of money they have for transfers right? They have hardly spent anything, won a lot and generated enormous amounts of revenue.

it's highly concerning the only club that seems to be pursuing mbappe is real according to the media. it could all be just bullshit rumors, but if psg do sell him then barca should make him top priority. forgot about that midfield, mbappe should be priority #1

I think that's the perfect comparison - both are similarly old and washed up, both score goals in league but are nowhere near good enough at the highest level, both living off their 'star' status, and they both probably love burgers.

If he can fetch 60m, Suarez who is an ever bigger name should easily fetch us more, unless the club selling him is FCB it would seem. Now would be the perfect time to sell him, he's had goals this WC, his value is as high as it's going to be going forward, and we really really cannot afford to have him as our starting striker. The combination of this board and a cowardly coach means that's never going to happen though.

I think you misunderstood. I am saying we cant afford to splash a gazillion millions on superstars going forward compared to Madrid. I am not saying that Paris, Man U or RM will destroy us on the field. There are many factors that can decide games and seasons. Hopefully we are able to buy smart to replace Busquets, Suarez, Messi, Pique, Rakitic, Iniesta, Xavi and Alba. We need that.

Suarez' extremely high wage has something to do with it as well, in addition to being almost a year older than Higuain. But yeah, Higuain for 60m euros is pretty nuts given how fast players usually decline at that age and Higuain's goal ratio is lower than it has ever been now.
