It certainly looked before they scored their 3rd one, the game was even, but then the Levante defender gave them a free penalty.

Can't wait for Athletico to face Barsa in their own home, will be a big test for us

Game wasn't really even. Levante's goals were well deserved but Atletico were dominating.

Oh well, looks like Athletico is not willing to give up

Are they really for real though? Ehh looks like a team that is overachieving to me, nothing wrong with that either, but I don't really see them winning anything major.

Everyone's thought that they are overachieving, and they aren't wrong. However that isn't just due to good fortune and circumstance, they have amazing players and more importantly a brilliant manager in Simeone. They could well win CDR, go far in CL, as for La liga we'll see.

They are a team capable of competing with the very best (Barca, Bayern, Madrid, etc.) in games.

Yeah in a game anything can happen and if there's a team that could upset big power houses, its this team, but at the same time, if big teams play them seriously like they should, I don't really see how they could upset them. At the end, no matter how much heart you put, more talented teams will beat them, only if talented teams put much desire as talent of course.

They still are building foundation to be one of those talented and elite teams. Their entire defense both individually and as a whole are far ahead of anyone else in la liga, just less popularly known. Costa is a hugely talented striker and his attitude helps him even though it's frustrating. They also have brilliant youngsters in Koke, Oliver, and Manquillo.

All of this is what they already have, and after this season they will bring in a massive amount of profits from the competitions they participate in and the sponsors they get. I think they've already got 25 million from Azerbaijan and 37 million from the CL group stages. They'll become more and more appealing to star players and have the funds to compete in the transfer market.

People were saying the same stuff about Atletico last year and they finished 9 points off Madrid and 24 points off Barca.

Over 90 minutes, sure they can beat the best of the best, but even over 2 legs I don't see them winning against any of the top teams. They were massively lucky to win vs Madrid in the Copa finale, and they created next to no chances vs Barca in the Supercup with Messi missing a penalty. They got hammered (not scoreline wise) in 3 of the 4 league games last year.

Their only good game vs the top 2 was vs Madrid in the league this season.

We didn't create that much against them either. And they were dominating us at the start of the first leg of the super cup.

See this is where it becomes silly. The word 'dominate' is being thrown around way too often. Atletico didn't dominate at all. What Bayern did, THAT was dominating. Atletico merely challenged us in periods of the first leg. They didn't do much except stressing Barca. That's not dominating someone, so stop throwing that word around.

Exactly. You don't call 10-15 minutes of good play domination, you are totally right that the word is thrown around a lot, not just by forum posters but also by journalists.

It's just made worse when you have new fans of football who are just getting into the game read those articles and their entire perception is conditioned by what is said.

Real domination is winning 4 leagues in 5 years like Barca, or 13 PLs in 21 years like United, or reaching 3 CL finals in 4 years like Bayern.

Atletico looked a lot better against Barca and Real than they did against Levante. You can see that they thrive because they have the right attitude, motivation and workrate to treat every game like a World Cup final and because they have the fitting counterattacking tactics to soak up pressure and pour forward. Not because of their individual quality, which is still good but not great. With 67 % possession they looked rather clueless against a team like Levante and that penalty was soft.

A typical "sum greater than its parts" team. Which makes it all the more ludicrous that Simeone wasn't even in the extended Coach Of The Year 2013 list.

How finished is Villa by the way? Dear oh dear.

Losing 2 out of 3 CL finals isn't domination, my friend. Winning 3 in the last 7 years however. :neymar:
