New rules established for 2013-14 Liga season
Several new rules will be enforced by Liga referees during the 2013-14 season. La Liga will finally come to its senses about how to punish players for involuntary contact between ball and hand. These handballs will no longer result in automatic yellow cards; in fact, if the contact does not benefit the offending team, there will no foul called at all. If the handball results in a loss of possession, or to a distinct advantage, it will still be considered a foul.
Some modifications to the offside rule will also be in place. Opposing players who obscure the view of the keeper will be considered to be active in the play, and therefore offside even if they make no contact with the ball. Opposing players who receive a mis-kicked ball will also not be considered offsides.
Finally, referees have been asked to dish out more severe sanctions for dangerous plays and tackles. Players who make contact above the neck with extended arms will receive automatic yellow cards,
and those who make contact with their elbows will be ejected.
Some players will have a hard time, if refs stick to that rule...
