Good teams find ways to win matches like Madrid were last season, now they're finding ways to lose.

Zidane is a much bigger fraud than Lucho. He won his first CL of easy draws, the league off late clutch goals and his second CL via offside goals.

The only part he can take some credit for is giving Madrid a bit of a lift in morale after his initial hiring and man managing his players well enough to get them to perform last season. Now that honeymoon shine, dressing room morale and respect he got from Madrid's players have worn out he's getting exposed for the tactical novice he is.

Madrid literally have the most primal way of playing football.

95% of Real Moves:

- CBs pass to each other.
- Goes into Kroos/Modric.
- Goes wide.
- Marcelo/Carvajal put in hopeful cross, not really aimed at anyone.
- Madrid lose ball.
- Their 'pressure' game begins.
- This consists of only 1-2 players pressing, while the others don't.
- They get counter attacked, mostly resulting in nothing/opposition give the ball away.
- Repeat.

Last year/year before, those hopeful crosses would eventually lead to a header, tap in, penalty, you name it.

This year, teams aren't as stupid. They've learned.

Was interesting to see Villarreal allowing Real the width of the pitch in the 2nd half, comfortable enough to allow them to cross.

Playing a diamond consists of many of these elements in any club. Look at Ancelotti's Milan and who were the centerpieces there. The difference is strikers weren't washed up (maybe Inzaghi a bit but still he wasn't always first choice). Also Kaka was far more direct than Isco. Fullbacks this year only have one way of playing coached into them, which works when strikers are mobile. Bale IS mobile and was consistently the best player in this setup for throughout the entire season, scored regularly. You can take the piss all you want, but not all the pieces are as simple as you make them to be.

Taking the piss and forming an opinion are two different things.

Yup everything went right for them last season and they still only won the league by 3 points against our worst side in who knows how many years.

They aren't getting all the bounces anymore, Zidane can't adapt and the wheels are falling off.

I will never rate this Madrid side of the last 4 years, I found Mourinho's team much better tbh, he just had the misfortune of facing the best team of all time and not getting the breaks needed to go far in the CL.

I cannot call a team historically great unless they manage to display the to consistency needed to win their league regularly, any team can take home a cup competition with the right hot streaks and a bit of luck. Madrid have failed miserably in La Liga over the last 10 years winning only 2 titles, embarrassing for them.

-Coutinho and Dembele have barely even been integrated into our squad.
-Umtiti has been injured for nearly two months.

We haven't even had a chance yet to play our strongest team this season and we could be 19 points ahead of Franco's boys tomorrow.

Let's be real, it's nice to say we haven't won it yet, but Atleti they have no chance. Valverde won't let this get away from us now, we have it in the bag.

Yes, true, but 9 points isn't enough to start celebrating in January IMO, however it would take an enourmus meltdown at this point to lose it.

Still, with no pressure to Anoeta.

I have been saying the same. Atletico overturning a 9 point trail at this point would be an unicum for them. Statistically very improbable. If you are scared of Atletico winning it, might as well stay home tomorrow because you have bigger chance at getting hit by lightning lol(not actually true).

Taking the piss and forming an opinion are two different things.

Which is dumbed down and oversimplified =]

1) Isco thrives with the ball at his feet and scoring from his passes relies on strikers making good runs. Ronaldo and Benzema don't make them. The only one that does consistently this year is Bale.
2) Ronaldo always wants to have a go no matter how good he is positioned for it (4 goals from 94 attempts this season).
3) Marcelo has become lazy, was always prone to that, but ever since he doesn't even care about Theo being his sub, he has no threat and doesn't feel the consequence of mistakes
4) Carvajal has never been the sharpest of crossers, but his dedication will never go unacknowledged. Similarly suffers from lack of threat, but is still better. Sadly he was never coached out of the bad habits i.e. gets rinsed by better dribblers instead of using positioning to block them with teammate support.
5) Kroos has never had the habit of tracking back and is usually played for his sharp passing. His accuracy is what is important to distribute the ball across flanks. Occasionally he provides a good flat shot from a rebound, or a late run. He's the best at what he does and again, does not feel threatened by Kova. Mateo likes to run forward which is superb, but there is no visible benefit from his offensive game, because strikers aren't good enough in the way Sheva or Inzaghi were for Kaka.
6) Modrić is getting old. Can only play good 60 minutes every 2 or 3 games.

Basically a multitude of problems in a tactic that would otherwise work and all stem from one thing - lack of consequence and too much faith in a team getting increasingly washed up.
