How come?
They have Sociedad and Bilbao. We have Sevilla and Villareal. Pretty much the same. We lost points both away to Sociedad and Bilbao for example. 5 out of 6.
We've played against Bilbao in the first game of the season almost 10 months ago. Without Messi and Suarez also got injured in 1st half. Just because we've lost there doesn't mean RM will too, even less so without 50k passionate Basque fans supporting their team.
Personally at this point I don't give much importance to the results before corona break or home/away game splits from different teams. Sure, visiting teams still have to travel to the games and home teams are more used to playing in their own stadiums but without the fans I don't think there is any real home field advantage. And again, while stats might not always show that under normal circumstances I consider playing away at both Seville teams and in the Basque Country (especially San Mames and Anoeta) as the toughest away games every season (obviously without counting RM and AM away games).
But after this break I'm mostly looking at the current form of the teams and while two rounds are a really small sample and things will surely change over the next few weeks before we'll play some of the later opponents I believe our schedule is tougher. Let's compare.
Round 30:
SEV-FCB
RSO-RM
Sevilla looked pretty well in their derby win against Betis. I've watched Sociedad yesterday vs Alaves and they've been very poor.
Round 31
FCB-ATH
RM-MAL
Both teams should win at home but our opponent is tougher on paper. It's true Bilbao don't have much to play for anymore this season in the league and Mallorca needs points in relegation battle. Still, I think odds of us dropping points in this round are bigger.
Round 32
CEL-FCB
ESP-RM
Both teams playing against relegation candidates. We're usually struggling at Balaidos and Asspanyol will prefer to get relegated if they can help their Madrid friends to win the title.
Round 33
FCB-AM
RM-GET
AM seems to get back in form after the break while Getafe is struggling so far.
Round 34
ATH-RM
VIL-FCB
Villarreal still with European ambitions while Bilbao not playing for anything in the league anymore.
Round 35
FCB-ESP
RM-ALA
Alaves is already pretty much safe from the relegation and won't need points barring total collapse in coming weeks. On the other hand Asspanyol is living for two games against us every season.
Round 36
GRA-RM
VLD-FCB
Valladolid looking pretty good so far, hopefully they'll be save from relegation when we'll play them. Granada could possibly still get into Europa League though I don't believe that. Probably won't be an easy game for neither team but both should win.
Round 37
FCB-OSA
RM-VIL
Osasuna is 10 points clear from the relegation and should be safe at that point, Villarreal will hopefully still push for European spots and possibly surprise but if Madrid will still challenge for the title at that point I don't expect them to drop points.
Round 38
ALA-FCB
LEG-RM
Again, Alaves should be safe at that point while I expect Leganes to already be relegated. Anyway, if it will come down to the last game I don't expect neither team to bottle the league so whoever will be top of the table after Round 37 will win the league imo.
