I personally only dislike the guy for the vehement appearance of never needing VAR to reassess any decisions that are clearly contentious. And I know the protocol on this is very dodgy, because he clearly has to get told to go to the monitor for something obviously wrong, but I've never seen it happen and there are several situations in the back of my mind where something just wasn't right. Plus he's fucked over many teams with horror decisions in previous years. Can't remember if the Sane offside call vs Liverpool 2 years ago that got Pep sent off was his sole call or if it was the linesman's, but his shit really sticks to the mind because of how OTT he is.
He doesn't swing clearly one way or another like some other refs had a tendency and inclination to, Iturralde Gonzalez for example. He's just trying to be 'a man' and often lets drama ensue. Still remember this here, though it's not entirely his fault, but he could have done more and I don't think he's added time for Cuellar's shenanigans:
