🚨| Luis Rubiales' mother Ángeles Béjar has gone on a hunger strike in a protest against the 'national campaign' against her son. She has locked herself up in a church in Motril town of Granada. She has asked Jenni Hermoso to tell the 'truth'. [@relevo]

The Spanish are a strange group of people lol

La Liga overachieved long enough. And that's mostly because they had state backed clubs since forever - Real backed by Spanish state, Barca backed by the state/region of Catalunia.

Spain as a country never had this great economy to begin with. Now that football is all about money, the other clubs that are not state backed or sugar daddy backed, are losing even the climate/language draw that helped them sign all those south american players for decent money in the past.

It's true. The climate and language is still a big draw for south Americans but yeah if you offer 1/3 the money, it ain't enough.

Also, people should keep an eye on Bryan Zaragoza from Granada. Could be one of the revelations of the season alongside a few Valencia youngsters like Diego Lopez and Javi Guerra.

Money is obviously a big factor, but I would say that more so is the decline of Spanish youth systems.
They are simply not providing the same quality of players they used to be, in comparison to other big names. That used to compensate for financial shortcomings before but not today.
Spain for example lacked a modern CB that is athletic and bully while still knows how to play with the ball, a guy like Eric Garica was almost a starter at some point ffs.
They lack attackers, almost no decent CF there or even a top notch winger has been there for past decade or so, gone are the days were the likes of Torres and Villa were competing and they had Pedro and Silva there too. Even their youth teams lacks exciting attackers and CB for example, only one is Yamal and no surprise they want to tie him to NT at 16 as he is the only one in horizon who might turn into WC attacker from players under the age of 35

Decline of Spanish youth systems? I think these things come and go in cycles. Italy and Germany are in the same situation. Netherlands have been shit for years now.

England has some exciting teens, but they don't win anything at NT level.

France are good producers right now, but mostly because they scoop up the African talent.

Actually most of the biggest U21 talents have dual nationality - african + european. Possibly because they come from immigrants and poorer backgrounds?
