No it's not routine, it's enforcing Madrid power based and ref bias. The message they are sending out is if you make a call that hurts Madrid, even if it is a fair one, as Manzano's was, you will be punished.

No wonder refs have allowed 27 goals for Madrid this season which have been incorrectly allowed and have had to be overturned by VAR ( the most by far by any club in La Liga. ).

Remarkably Madrid fans took this stat and seemed to think it indicated the refs are against them. 🤣. Again reinforcing the fact that every time Madrid fans encounter fair refereeing decisions they seem to think they are being screwed over.
