Valencia 19th lost against Valladolid 20th.
Looks like Valencia goes really down this year and who knows what will happen then with all their debt. After Malaga, a second tradional team is destroyed by an investor. Spanish teams really need to do a better background check on people who are offering to buy their clubs. Sad to see.
Malaga had there best ever time under the new investors, but his plans of new stadium was blocked by the city iirc, so he had to abandon the club as it became a sunk cost for him, even then they survived and did fairly well in comparison to their history.
I mean, it is easy to forget that Malaga first ever Liga appearance was in 99/2000, they had been almost exclusively a club fighting between 3rd and 4th division during the 20th century. And when they were bought, they were couple of years away from previous relegation too. They are where they where historically supposed to be.
Sadly, they were made the bogeyman that made clubs and investors fear for themselves, allowed Liga to do those strict FFP and basically puh rich investors away. Instead of trying to solve the problem of Malaga and gain a powerhouse in the league.
Valencia was bought afterwards, with already delayed stadium, financial crisis. Lim was negotiating with the creditor bank at this point, there was no way they were looking for someone to do well sporting wise. Even then, Lim first 5 years had 3 top 4 finish and 1 CDR title. Hardly a disaster. It feels he has given up afterwards, looking at how the league handles investment, harsh FFP, and Covid.
Regarding Valencia this season, there are many who sees their relegation as financially better solution for the club and their owner. Apparently Liga has this weird reward for clubs who are relegated, based on their amount of years in 1st division. So, if a club gets relegated for first time in a decade(s) they actually get a "financial" help. OTOH, most contracts has relegation clauses and salaries shrinks, and many players would be easily convinced to leave. Giving clubs a chance to start a new page essentially. Apparently that what has happened with Villarreal a few years ago.
