Rangnick:
"Modern football in the last 10 years, it has completely changed into a more physical, more athletic, more vertical game. In order to develop teams, you need to train the bodies"

That quote is gold. Give it to Xavi. He is still stuck in the past, like the rest of the club. Why didn't we hire Rangnik?
Too many on the forum wanted Xavi despite his only experience being in Qatar. When this was mentioned they brought up Pep who was an outlier and had the greatest players in the clubs history.
We just cannot keep playing this toothless football. We will end up like Utd wasting another two seasons under Xavi.

I think that quote by Rangnick sucks, and I think Barcelona will be competitive again under Xavi, playing by the principles that brought success in the 90s, 00s and 10s

😂

Dude, any top 12 team in the epl would beat us. We are that bad. Bayern are going to tear us apart with sadistic pleasure. Even shitty clubs can park the bus and sneak a win cause they have a defense. We are so bad. No attack, no defense. No physicality. We're lost.

The club might need to spend a couple seasons without European football and finishing midtable in order to get a reality check about how out of touch we are in terms of where the game has gone. It's true we have some brilliant young players but the underlying philosophy needs an upgrade.

Some players in the team, most in fact, would barely cut it in a mid-table League 1 club. We have some gems though who could come good.

What I don't get is serghei has been the chief proponent of no Amigos yet the likes of Busquets, Pique, Alba, Roberto being mainstays of Xavi's plans does't raise alarms?

What is the alternative? Play Barca B? We would lose every game. Amigos are not top players anymore but better than our prospects.

We need to replace them with better players.

The club is stuck in the glorious past and it will suffer greatly untlil they start realizing it's 2021 not 2011 anymore.

We are not stuck in the past ffs. We failed the transition.

Unless you think it's our idea to play with 3-4 teenagers every game and guys like Lenglet, Depay, Dest,...

The way we play/want to play is a thing of the past. Do you remember when was the last time a team with that philosophy of playing and with no variation last won CL? It's Barca from 2011, a fucking decade ago and with a fantastic squad that we probably won't ever see again.

Outdated football, which no one is afraid for a long time. They are waiting for a chance and score more often. Has Xavi checked everyone already? It's time to make a choice and start building your own game. The old one is useless.

Yep and it's quite obvious we need to move from our glorious romantic football of the past to contemporary modern way of playing and we could start by adding some tactical variation and not only go after midget technical skilled players.

Again, I have a hard time talking about style of play when there hasn't been any kind of plan in the last five years (apart from milking Messi) and a very apparent lack of quality - irregardless of type of players. I mean, what's your point? We should ditch the Pedris/Gavis of the world for guys like Robertson? Those two are the ones I associate with 2011 the most. Does that sound reasonable to you?

About 'toothless' football: you think that's a result of our philosophy or our options upfront? Which 'philosophy' would get the best out of our current squad? Would Liverpool look great with Coutinho-Depay-Abde upfront?

My point is we must completely rethink our football and not play pure hardcore cruyff football of the past anymore or at least add some tactical variation/get some other type of footballers too to implement it, try counters like Lucho successfully did, etc but DO some changes.
Toothless football is a result both of lack of players upfront and philosophy since every opponent nowadays knows perfectly well how to defend against our central attacks and our mostly useless crosses and those predictable positional attacks.
We won't be having anytime soon players like Etoo, Suarez, Villa, Messi to bang in goals, that's for sure.
