I don't know about that. Hungry Xavi from 2022-23 for sure. But last season he seemed spent and done tbh.

But the 2022-23 Xavi walks this league no doubt.
Yea not last season Xavi even though he was putting it together in the end

Let's not forget about CL. If we can really go far in CL that would be Flick's impact here even if we lose the league.

He lost both games though, and its getting the win that counts against Madrid, not sure we can say for certain.

He would be more efficient at beating mid table clubs than Flick though.
Yea he lost on small details.

Player error and poor ref in Madrid, if memory serves me right, I think he has a winning record against Madrid as coach.

Last season he has a horror run though in terms of actual results, can't hide from that.

But not trying to get into a Xavi Vs Flick thing.

Really need flick to be successful this season.

a league win and another CL QF and I'm happy.

CL SF and no league win, not happy.

He should still get at least two seasons unless it all goes horrible wrong though.

CL is irrelevant to me until we are not the best team in La Liga again. We never "luckily" win the CL like other teams, we have to dominate Spain first. And we are far away from that despite what some fans thought after first two months, lol.

CL QF or SF is same shiet from sporting perspective, either you win or you don't.

We are by far the best team in La Liga this season. If you look at the big picture, of course. If you take last few games as the frame then probably not.

Big picture is that Atleti and Real, even the other Real would and have punished this form, this attitude, these tactics, the overrated players.

Nah, we are not anymore all the way from the second half against Espanyol. Had one good game in last month. Wonder who didn't play in that game, hm.

Yup, that's a few last games. Espanyol was MD12, Betis was MD17. Until MD13 we lost just 1 game and pretty much dominated all the opponents we faced. Then started the poor form.

If we were nearly flawless for 12 matches and bad for 4 matches you can't really say we were worse than Real which was underwhelming in almost all of Liga games this season bar a few ones after Clasico like Osasuna, Leganes, Getafe, Girona. Atleti too as they were utter dogshit in the beginning.

This form is shit but I don't think it changes the fact we have been the best in La Liga this season. Every team had its own poor run of form and now we are experiencing ours.

Problem is concentration and intensity

I don't think intensity necessarily comes down to drained energy, as most say.
That is a factor, sure, and the lack of squad depth is a major problem

But i think big part of lack of intensity is also concentration. The players were mentally off tonight..

Indicative of that was the line. Our last line 'sat' many meters behind the avg of the season.
Result? 0 offsides for Betis. Must be negative record of the season.

Compare the avg position of the line and the 11 offsides against Mallorca.
There you have the first major reason we lost tonight.

The question is where that lack of concentration comes from.

I think it's pretty obvious it has started after the glorious wins against Bayern and Madrid, in second half against Espanyol and I also think it's no coincidence. Maybe it had some kind of negative mental effect on their attitude on the pitch. If that is the case; it sucks of course but is nothing impossible to fix.

Most likely a combination of factors. A little bit of flying too high, a little bit of being tired, drained confidence after the poor form and possibly a few more things as well.

Today it proves that Lamine Yamal not starting isn’t the cause of our poor play. Our team just seems to lack focus/desire and also has habit to have further matches in their head. We need to focus 1 game at a time and play with true desire, as if each game is a final, or at least play it until 2/3 goals in front then can relax a bit. Feel like we relaxed that whole game no matter what the score was.

That is a valid point as well.

Complacency started creeping in after the Bayern-Madrid week and the big wins.

Hansi has to put his German mentality at work, and KICK some ass, or else the season will get derailed...
We saw this team is capable of winning everything this season if there are no injuries, and everyone's mentality is in the right place
