Good start, Villareal were piss poor but Barca still did their job well, attack looked fluid in the first half and a positive result to start the season.

Good performance overall from the team. Busquets was pretty bad, FDJ was pretty bad in the second half, our defense is still sloppy; a team with a more effective offense could’ve capitalized on our mistakes/Villareal’s chances. I liked the 70min subs, maybe they’re late but from what we’re used to with Setien, I took it as a positive sign.

No one mentioning Lenglet?

Not just his 2 long passes leading to the 2 first goals + all match long really. 89%+ success and many were piercing.

Great UEFA allows for 5 subs per match. Ideally would've been 11 (with a max of 5 interruptions allowed). Koe made good subs but earlier would've been better. So great also to see so many players attacking the net. Even Woodstock but got robbed by OG lol
Honestly, I'd just use Busi as late game supersubs or as an assistant coach at this point. Lucky Villareal were slow and didn't press much cuz he'd have been found out.

Bouze was good with his control and distribution. Could've been more daring a la Ansu though here and there where he passed it back instead of attacking the defender and be 1v1 with keeper. Much better than last season though with minimal sideways snorefest. Still wanna see whole team attack even more. Koe should give each players minimum shot attempt and chance created quotas

And finally, Neto with the clean sheet was good keeping the ball off the Net And that nutmeg from Couti on the ref :p

Important to win the first game and get some confidence. You never know where you stand at the beginning of a new season, new coach, new players etc. Great, that Ansu showed that he can be more than a one season wonder. Also good that this team can create goals without Messis help. All in all a great first half and a meh second, but the game literally was over.

Don't wanna get hyped up too much though. Villareal has a decent team, but they somehow are easy to play against for Barca . The game vs Villareal was also Setiens best game imo. Celta will be a bigger test.

Would really love to see a Fati-Coutinho-Dembele line behind Messi as the lone striker, 4-2-3-1 being the one of the very few formations where Messi being 'the 1' we can afford his walking. Pedri and Trincao as the supersubs, Trincao will play a lot as a starter anyway with Dembele's fitness issues, while Pedri is perfect as Coutinho's alternative/super sub for this season. Alena (and Puig) can play in deeper roles (replacing Pjanic and De Jong). Should really push out Busquets like we did Suarez, no matter the cost, even if it costs us money in the end. Cover it with cashing in on Griezmann while we can, simply doesn't fit in anywhere.

If anything this game was a good morale booster after all the soap opera BS we had to deal with over the last 2 months. Really refreshing stuff and Fati with the headlines too. Nice.

our CB's did well today and Neto did his job.
Coutinho was great during the first half, along with Alba, Fati and FDJ.
Messi could have scored 2-3 goals in the second half, with some luck.
Celta away will be a real test.

Worrying how bad we were in the 2nd half after Villarreal changed tactics. Good 1st half, but we still haven?t been properly tested. Sevilla next game should be a much harder game.
