It is part of cycle as both have spent big on players that have not been great.

That is the main reason for the drop in standard.

Bad decisions/planning from both more than club stability.

Some good, some bad as anywhere else. One club is more stable than the other too. Difficult to expect different players to come in that weren't as low risk an investment.
