Marca's team of the season came out... Biggest surprise was that Valdes got voted of Casillas... thought that would never have happened.

Madrid based news site Marca released the results of a poll they had run on their website, asking readers to identify their ideal starting XI for La Liga. More than 60,000 people participated. Coming from a Madrid-based news source, the results were interesting.

Valdés; Alves, Puyol, Piqué, Filipe Luis; Jesús Navas, Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Mata; Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the ideal starting eleven, chosen by the readers of MARCA.com.

FC Barcelona had six players chosen, and of the defensive base (goalkeeper and defenders), four out of five are blaugrana. The remaining defender, Filipe Luis, is from Deportivo.

In the middle of the field, Xavi was the player who received the most votes, with 84.8%. Xabi Alsono was one of two Real Madrid players to earn a spot on the readers’ ideal team; the other two midfielders are from Sevilla (Jesús Navas) and from Valencia (Juan Mata).

The attack would be formed by Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
