Now we realize that EV's "it is what it is" is the best what any coach could have achieved under dictator Messi and spoiled amigos.
Lord Valverde.
That dictator Messi from 2017-2019 was still Ballon D'Or level Messi (even though he wasn't in his absolute prime) who scored 100 goals in 100 games over 2 seasons...He still had the same flaws as now but his production was still amazing. "Lord" Valverde benefited from that, unless you want to make an argument that it was Valverde who managed to make Messi score 100 in 100. In which case, it's a lost conversation.
All the past few months do is create some sympathy for Valverde, showing us that he had a difficult task at hand managing the amigos. But that's different from his attributes. He's still an ultra conservative, try to defend the lead and fail miserably type of small time manager. It's why he doesn't have another big job. Because other top clubs see right through him.
