Lionel Messi - v7

Wouldnt surprise me, Pep isnt stupid. Messi should go to PSG or Serie A (Inter Mailand / Napoli)

Serie A sides can't afford him. Can't get anywhere near what he's earning at Barca. If City is backing off because of financial aspects, can you imagine how overpaid he is currently? Unlike Barca, City are sitting on billions and still are hesitant to cover those wages.

We can only hope some dumb future president doesn't have the bright idea of extending him at 100m a year. That would really fuck us up for more extra years and would turn this club into Messi's toy.

Half this forum would have you believe that signing Messi instantly leads to hundreds of millions in revenue...Would never be the case but still gets stated as fact.

Personally have always argued that couldnt see Pep being all that interested in signing him. Could be wrong yet but just doesnt make much sense.

If he reduces wages could easily end up at Atletico.

I think if he goes to City it's a business decision done more to satisfy the pride of the Group behind City, in their attempt to build a global brand. Messi, as bad as he is, is hugely popular in the football world. Outside of that, it doesn't make any sense for City. Doubt Pep wants him, but maybe he is willing to go along at the owners' request.

Hard to know exactly what's going on there. But no sane team would want to deal with this Messi.

Our only hope is the board realising he's no longer worth the financial sacrifices.

They can't afford him even if they want to. People don't realise how much money FC Barcelona will still have to cut from their wagebill.
Only Messi leaving won't be enough, probably at least one of Griezmann, Dembele or Coutinho will have to be sold.

This club will have to accept not spending much for a couple of years and as a result won't be competitive.

People here always said the FC Barcelona financial muscle will prevent them from falling to Milan or Man U levels, now that financial muscle is gone.

The way the club has treated Messi (and Suarez, Dani Alves and others in the past), the toxicity of some of the fan base, the way this club has been run ... a couple of years of fighting for CL qualifaction is the very least they deserve.

Btw I still believe City is the most likely option for Messi...

 The Messi fanboys in here wishing ill on the club. Go take a hike with him to your new Arab overlords. Better be careful with the bravado though because it might look like MLS is the only option come summer if he keeps up these kind of performances.

Who's living in the past, thinking Barca is still relevant (once Messi leaves commerical revenue will fall even further), thinking barca is still able to attract top talent, the likes of Depay is the best you can hope for.

'How the club treated Alves'.... by daring to look for another RB to add to squad for an ageing player.

'How the club treated Suarez'... by turning down his request for four year extension after putting him on long contract/big contract at time he would be declining. How terrible of club to then sell him!

'How the club treated Messi'...Gave him huge contract and made him stick to it.

What a load of nonsense.

The 'toxic fanbase' are those that are Messi fanboys and come out with shit like that.

You are not even making sense.

There is a difference to how things have turned out and the club treating those players poorly as you claimed.

Nonsense is fanboys you claiming shit like 'Depay is best Barca can attract'.
