Lionel Messi - v7

I don't like Pep refusing to come back and spending most of his managerial career outside Barca. And the post referred to players.

Pep played for Roma when they were same level as Barca. I referred to him as a player and manager, not that it should make a difference
He has done it aged 31 too, wasn't too old either

Oh, ok, it can happen, it's just that the biggest legends are usually one-club players. Do you disagree with it?

Sounds like Virtue signalling and inaccurate tbh
I mean I doubt RM fans thinks of Ramos or Casillas in any lesser way because they played elsewhere, same with Raul etc.
Players in general rarely judged by the end of their career anyway, unless it came with some significant success

One-club player is meant as a player that spent their whole career at the top at one club. Not even Iniesta and Xavi are one-club players if you go down that route.

Casillas went to Porto, not joined a rival of Madrid. And it's the club that decided to let him go, Casillas didn't leave them. Could very well disagree, but Messi leaving the club when the club wants him to stay is denting a bit of his club legend status, at least in comparison with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta.

Let's say we scratch the final years. Who comes to mind?

From my generation? Xavi and Iniesta would be that. Messi would leave this select group of players who are 100% Barca in their relevant playing career. Of course you can toss that aside and say Messi is the greatest legend because he is the best player and is connected to so many titles.

It's basically about the sentimental, romantic value of playing all of your career at the same club. Like Totti for example. It adds value to how people will remember you, some people at least.

All of them are very big legends for this club. Puyol, Xavi,Iniesta,Messi, all are part of that golden generation that we will never have. For me, they are all in my heart and that is where they'll remain. But the difference between Messi and the others is that he is by far the greatest player this club has had. That will never be erased, even if he leaves this summer.

Yep, Serghei confuses biggest legend with personal preference. Iniesta is my all time favourite, but it's rather insane not having Messi as our biggest legend. Even if he plays a year or two for PSG/City.

If Messi leaves, it will be at the age of 34.
Same age as Iniesta, just one year younger than Xavi, the only reason it is still "relevant playing career" is just how good Messi even at this age.
He is still in the conversation of top 5 players in the world, while Xavi was on worse decline since he was 31, Iniesta since he was at that stage at 32, Puyol at 33 etc. Though being attacker ease things.

It adds value to how people will remember you, some people at least.

Sure, there is always that weird minority if I may say.
But overall, it will be all forgiven, considering how much joy he gave the fans in 16 years playing fully in 1st team.

Weird in what way? It's not like these people won't think of Messi as a Barca legend. It's just a disappointment that a legend chose money and personal titles over finishing his career at Barca. Valid criticism if anything.

Fine if people pretend it doesn't matter.
