GOAT player, but a shit captain...

I more and more think that he is easily steered by other people, namely Suarez and other members of Club de Amigos.

Maybe they won't win nothing big with him as captain? Anyone thought that?
Imagine him NOT being captain and having a nutter in midfield like vidal as captain,

Remember the great captains were not all great players. However him being captain has not changed the way he plays so that is a bonus. It's him not being able to bring out the best in his team mates, making them believe, motivating them to try harder etc.

If those quotes are accurately translated then how are people viewing that as Messi defending Valverde to the death. He's the captain of the club. In history has a captain of a club ever publicly asked for the sacking of the manager, or when asked about the manager not at least been somewhat supportive and professional? Especially a club as big as barca.

If he's really said we were playing worse but have improved/ we are improving that is literally saying we haven't been playing well, why do teams generally play poorly? Tactics and management.

It's not like he walked up to these interviews and started talking about Valverde, praising him. He was asked questions about him by people looking to sell news.

A real leader doesn't back incompetent managers just because he and his friends like the freedom and power this manager gives them. The club and the team come first. And Valverde is an obstacle in the rebuilding of a new team.

It still beats me why he supports Valverde so much. Even if he doesn't want to criticize the coach publicly, he could communicate in private to the board. Seems like he's more concerned with playing with his pals in his remaining years and with Ernie around, there's a higher chance of them staying here for as long as they want.

We are not with those players in the dressing room or on the training grounds.
WHAT IF they know that they are old, that they can't run anymore (even Messi can't run consistently for more than 50-60 minutes anymore), Alba the same, Suarez the same, Raki the same, Busi the same, Pique the same, Vidal the same, Arthur the same.

WHAT IF players are more aware of their age and declining physique, pace, stamina than our fans?
And even though EV is meh, WHAT IF that they know that the end is near and "it is what it is" and they know that won't be too much better with any coach, since they are in their final year of football?

Suarez, 33 years in 14 days
Pique, 33 years in 20 days
Vidal 32 years, 8 Months
Messi, 32 years and 6 Months
Rakitic, 32 in 2 Months
Busquets, 31 and 6 Months
Alba, 30 and 2 Months

You guys don't find these numbers concerning?
1. so, our players are as old as AC Milan after 2005, the oldest team in a modern history of football
2. modern football evolved and top teams are running and pressing like crazy. Yet, we have the oldest team in the world, who is supposed to cope with that running and pressing from the younger opponents, lol.
3. Barcelona never cared too much about physique, pace, stamina. So, our players, even on their prime, were technical beasts with weak or average physical attributes.
5 or 10 years later: they have even worse physique because they got old and their bodies and finished due to playing 60+ matches per year for 10-15 years.

Basically, we have a 15 years old Ferrari who travelled the world several times and who's engine and all parts are heavily damaged and not working properly anymore.
And we have to win a race against a new model, who is less expensive and not as good as our Ferrari on his prime.
But that new model is still way better TODAY compared to a CURRENT VERSION of our FERRARI.

When you guys are analyzing our players and our play, you are probably thinking about their glory days when they were young, motivated, fast and when they could run.
Sorry to break your dreams and delusions, but our current team is today way closer to this than to their glory days:

And then you wonder why Messi is backing up a coach:
1. because he can't run anymore
2. because a new coach will fire his best friends, like Suarez, Busi, Raki, Pique and co
3. because a new coach will force him to run more, which Messi doesn't want and what he can't do anymore
4. because a new coach might want to implement new ideas and force Messi to play on fixed position, which he doesn't want to

So, too much problems when you consider that he will probably play only for 18 Months more.
Suarez and Pique have probably even less than that.

They probably know Valverde's gone by the end of the season. The players are so media trained that they know that the bust thing to say at the moment is that they support him.

If they wouldn't there would be distractions and disharmony not only at our club but at teams with coaches linked to us.

Valverde won't be sacked unless we drop to third in Liga and get knocked out by Napoli. It will take more than a loss against Atletico in a sellout tournament to get sacked.

Then they would know they would have to leave.. Rakitic keeps saying he is top of his career. I would say they are delusional.

I disagree with the notion that messi "cant run" and he's partly to blame. its just that its pointless for him to run and press for 90 mins. he's never done it and shouldnt have to.
we need messi to be dangerous in the attacking third of the pitch. we have a freaking coach who is setting up his team without wingers to stretch the pitch and without positional play knowledge. how many times do we have to see roberto/ struggling to get up the pitch or vidal on the wing or up top who btw can barely control or play a proper pass, Griezzman is never open for the passes neymar thrived on because he's not a winger and he's too busy being alba's bodyguard in LB. for the three years Valverde is here, not one player improved, not freaking one. so yeah continue to blame messi who is the captain of the team and his job is to always try to think of the collective in a respectful way. he never spake out against martino or lucho so dont expect him to do so now. i'm not saying messi is above reprieve when applicable, i'm saying we have a clusterfuck of issues and a coach who is making life harder for messi who by the way has younger replacement parts for the Ferrari but is content on shipping them away.

He's a phenom and a good guy but not captain material.

True
But who should be the captain of this team? there is no leader, there is no player with big ball, we don't even have a warrior/winning/fighting mentality...
Puyol and Mascherano were the last leaders and players with big balls
We don't even have a coach who is nowhere near a leader...

Speaking about leader and mentality....
We are really a team without balls. We're really missing gladiator players who fight, run and spit blood.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going: a mentality that we don't even know what it means...
The head, the mentality, is decisive as the talent.
I'll take the lost match against Liverpool as example. Let's forget about the result.
We lost the game even before the referee started the match. The Liverpool players were loaded, pumped up, bloodshot eyes, ready to fight like gladiators, and with a fanatical belief in the victory.
We.......... looked like a team of scared schoolboys.

Btw: Messi had a great match and team played very well, we did not deserve to lose.

Ter Stegen? He's by far the best leader we've got in the team right now, and is now also at the club long enough and has been consistently brilliant too to be considered for the role. I'd give it to him no contest.
