Lionel Messi - v7

Messi can't work as a No9, since he will drop deep, we will have no one in the box and wingers will cover for him and they will be too far from the box.
In your idea, where he is a CAM, that could work only at Camp Nou against bottom table teams, but even that is a question.

In the end, this is not a revenge post, but it seems that the original idea from "the worst coach in the history" EV, was the best idea how to play with a current Messi:
442
Messi and a true no9.
That way we still have a presence in the box (No9).
And one out of 4 midfielders is a winger (let's say LM Dembele).
That way:
1. we get Messi on a field
2. we get a No9 in the box
3. we get a 4 men midfield to compensate for a lack of Messi's running in defense
4. we get at least one winger in a LM Dembele who can offer some pace and width
5. again, it made sense why Roberto was a RB because he was offering more as a RB attacking wise than clueless Semedo. So, Dembele and Alba were offering width and pace on the left side, and Roberto was offering some width and linkup play on a right side.

But when we played that exact formation, people complained that we are not Barca, that we are slow, that we need to go back to our 433.

I think that this is the best formation for this old team.
You still get a bit of everything in it, unlike other formations who have much bigger flaws in other areas.

Both formations above 442 and 433 would actually be pretty similar since Messi, bless his heart, will drop deep every now and then.

They both have a CF. Big Hal would be 1st choice top dog but I'm pretty happy with Colgate atm, he looks the type to offer lots of Kodak moments and I love to use smileys :D

You've also got your 4 men midfield in both since that's where Trink-bouze on the right and San-Ansu on the left would roam before their runs. Cardio effort needed would be maximal for the wingers and fullbacks but they're young and with proper resting and subs, wouldn't be a prob.

Camavinga and Dej would be awesome as either double pivot or central mid. Looks like Rennes wanna keep Camav for a few years to protect him, otherwise looks like he'd be headed to BVB but if if he were to join us, our solidity at the back combined with either Kon or Upa would look so much better.

Busi been much more effective than Dej lately, with more daring passes and through and loop balls and even pressing :2guns: but we need to start phasing him out anyways so rotating both as long as Busi is in the groove is the right plan. Not even worried about Dej, just needs to find his groove and take chances. With Camavinga next to him, he might be more confident to try dribbles and risky passes + he'll have a super fast b2b technical wiz to do 1-2s with and smoke that grass!

The last few games I saw Bob, he was playing much better but honestly, yesterday, against the attack of Marcelo on a good night and Vin, it would've been a horror fest!

Griez, I've no idea why he sucks so much at attack. I thought the dude was a monster but he plays so shy it's like he's afraid to shine  maybe field him is in midfield or AM in a home la Liga match, as a sub, to rest the regular starters or just transfer him to China or MLS. Crowds still love him. Let's go Barto, bring da money home :messi:

People overly critical towards the 32-33 yo player who has carried this team on the most classico wins it ever had while at the same time they say Griezmann was good but the Ball wasn't reaching him..
Messi had a bad game, due to the misses.
But we collapsed physicality in the second half, that's why we lost.
Vidal looked out of place also.
The setup was kind of weird and we failed to keep control at All which is supposed to be our new mantra.

Messi is tired carrying Barca for so long and now Setien forcing him to intense training.

We're never winning a major trophy with that 4-4-2 again. Just not happening as both the midfield and the attack will be compromised.

It's not for now anyway. If you read my post which it seems like you didn't do, I want to bring in new players to make that system work. Not play it with the amount of useless players and manager we got now.

You've not disputed why it won't, or cannot work.

All you do is complain about how we play slow, bad football BBZ, but then you go on and suggest the same.

Why are people so sure he is injured? Pique said he was 100% as far as he knew. It is that impossible to accept that Messi is in shit form for quite some time now bar that game vs Eibar?

First, why are you mentioning major trophies?

If you are talking about a CL, we won't win it anytime soon.
So, why ever bother about a CL, we will lose either way, and especially in post Messi era.

Regarding the only trophy left: La Liga: at Camp Nou we should go all out attacking, like crazy. Possession, bomarding the box with lots of players, shooting, risking, trying everything.
And on away matches, we should mix a few different formations and options based on the opponents and a result in a minute 45, 60, 75.

Again, about a CL... who cares, why even bother?

We're not even winning La Liga with this team, unless Real Madrid manage to throw it all away agin. This team is dead. It's over.

I'm fine with doing like Real Madrid and rebuilding with a new President, Board and manager even if it takes 2-3 years, although with a couple of great transfer windows a lot can change.

But when it comes to this team. 4-4-2, 4-3-3, my suggested 4-2-1-3/4-2-3-1, nothing is going to work.

This team need a:

- CB
- B2B BF
- LW
- CF/ST
- Possibly a RW

and then later most likely a RB and LB too.

You seem to believe that I'm suggesting this system with our current players and manager.

Nope.

I will not surrender the title to the madridiots.

If Setien does not have a comfortble points lead by the end of march sack him and appoint a specialist in grinding out results. I think Allegri is the best option for us.

Yeah, yet another sacking will definitely get us the title.

Lionel Messi hasn’t scored or assisted in five El Clasico games since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid in July 2018 😳

His El Clasico record has certainly been not as good in the last few years. We had a few of our most memorable trashings (0-4 in 15/16, 0-3 and 5-1 last season) without him.

Allegri is very pragmatic and defense oriented.

It is true that he had built most of his El Classico record between 2007 and 2014.After that he has had many mediocre games for his standards, with a few bright expressions of course(eg I'll never forget the last minute goal in the 2-3 of the 2016/17 season. This might be my greatest Barca memory)
