Lionel Messi - v7

The meeting between Koeman and Messi was not friendly.

-Leo was surprised by Koeman's style who was strict and wanted control from day one.

-Koeman told him that the privileges he had previously had expired, and that the priority was for the team.

- Koeman tells the team captain that players will end control of the locker room with him.

Should have been done right after Anfield at the latest. If not Roma.

The players lost that privilege after 8-2. Things have to change.

Anfield and Rome at least they had the title to hide behind.

I feel it's different this time. He clearly seems pissed. And why would he want to stay another here knowing he probably won't win anything?

I think he's had enough and might want out but doesn't want to uproot his family. Especially at short notice. The season starts in barely 2 weeks.

I think he'll see the season out one way or another but beyond that it's hard to say. He might even retire.

And now they have no title to hide behind, and the European humiliation hit historic levels. It's all about spotting the warning signs before you go full crash like we did this season.

Who knows how good of a coach Koeman will be for us, but I am loving this.. No more bullshit from the players!

Koeman is the right man for the job. The cleaner part at least.

Mad respect for Koeman if this actually happened.

If True,
Koeman is the coach we all need, and I don't care how beautiful football we will play next season.
Ending the cancerous locker room is no1 priority right now

I doubt Koeman is playing this hard line against the senior mafia without Barto's blessing.

1 minute phone call dismissal for his pet after 3 years of over-payment, nepotism, under-achieving failures, disappointment and humiliation, etc.

if the pet had been in a real mafia

We'll be better off if he stays for one more year (Suarez must leave) while having a far more reduced role and leaves next year. No one will pay a lot for a 33-year-old during a pandemic even if it's Messi.

His departure would ease our wage budget situation a lot. Stay this year and divert the pressure away from the youngsters. Next year they will be readier and Messi can leave for free or retire.

Agreed. And he could leave with a better climate in the team, not after a humiliation like that. Even if we don't actually compete for anything next year, we could open doors to youngsters and light up some fire in the fans again.

The 8-2 being his last game does leave a bad taste if he leaves now, I can agree with that. It's just not a proper sending off. I think for everybody's sake, Messi should dig deep for 1 more full season and drop the style he's been used to where he and his pals rule the team. Maybe win a La Liga, compete better in CL, and leave after 2020-2021 season on a high if he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild.

Sounds like the best option. Next season is right around the corner too so it won't be a long season.
