Except it does matter. You're very naive if you don't think Messi has a say in things and that the board doesn't listen to the players overall. Messi openly supporting the manager has a lot of weight to it - especially when done repeatedly.

Ultimately he doesn't make the decisions, but he is a very central part of the process.
