Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

It's a tricky one. Imagine the scenes if he and Argentina defended the trophy (he will likely be a squad player).

OTOH - and far more likely - as @companyofcules implies, it might be a disaster and he's better going out on the high of the World Cup win and Copa defence. 39 (in summer 2026) is ancient for a footballer. It's always better to go out on a high. But maybe he doesn't care and is just enjoying playing. He strikes me as someone not that bothered if some doubt him.

Just think it's better if you finish when you have won or succeeded in life.

Of course, we do not know the future. Argentina could win the trophy again with Messi. And if he retired now he'd miss out on that. I did say that and I also said that maybe he just enjoys still playing with no pressure to win the world cup now.

So he should stop doing what he loves to do because...?
Nah not saying that. I even said he can keep doing it if he enjoys it.

I just meant that it is even sweeter if he doesn't go if the other option is a massive failure. But his legacy is secure anyway.

But then I don't take my own advice because at my infinitely lower level I have declined as a player too (five years older than Messi) and I refuse to stop playing because I love football so much. So I understand his desire to prolong his career as long as he can.

He won Copa America this year, scored a hattrick for Argentina a month ago.

Any talk of "he should have retired" is comical. Or trolls crawling from CR ass.

Everybody knows he is playing another world cup.

Come on, you know I will always defend Messi as a footballer and I hate Ronaldo more than anyone on here.

I was just saying that in general I think people can go out on top. If Argentina struggle in USA (not outwith the bounds of possibility) I don't want people trolling the best player of all time.

I think you don't even know what you want but it doesn't matter either way. Like Leo once said "A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a sheep"

It gets really tiring how some posters get personal when people say anything even SLIGHTLY criticising Messi. You've seen my main posts in this thread and others praising his genius as a footballer.

It isn't even criticising really. I am simply saying that FOR EVERYONE it's generally better to go out on the highest high than risk humiliation in defending the trophy.

There's been examples of teams and players from the past who went on too long. Just as one example (and a much lower level than Messi), Cannavaro made a tit of himself playing long after Italy won the 2006 World Cup (and he was younger than Messi).

Messi will be 39 during USA 2026. He's the best player of all time (with Maradona), and he might show up in that tournament, despite being ancient. However, he could also be miles past it and Argentina could flop, and that will open the door for Ronaldo loving wankers to insult and abuse him and imply that Qatar was a fluke and all sorts of other bollocks.

I couldn't rate Messi any higher as a player, but some people do have a point that any slight bit of criticism (and this isn't even criticism) leads to lots of very thin skins on here. It's a bit cultish to be honest.

I think he's the best player ever, and I hate Ronaldo more than you do, I can guarantee it. So fucking drop the one line personal digs. Thought you were a decent poster but you are being a cunt with a poor attitude over absolutely fuck all.

'but it doesn't matter either way. Like Leo once said "A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a sheep"'

Lol this is so pathetic. He isn't a lion - he's a fucking professional footballer who is completely unremarkable in every other facet of life other than playing football.

Taking digs at me is fucking ridiculous.

And he is a thick cunt if he did say that, because there are plenty of far more intelligent people than him who could advise him. Ferguson was one of the best managers ever but made a tit of his succession play with Moyes.

Honestly, little digs at me when I haven't criticised him just show how far up his arse you are you sycophantic moron.

He's an amazing footballer but treating him like a God or a 'lion' is pathetic as fuck.

You don't realise it but cult members like you are every bit as bad as the extreme Ronaldo fanboys who spin everything in that cunt's favour.

It doesn't matter if we talk about Messi, CR7 or someone like Iniesta. Imagine how much Iniesta and his family experienced when he lived in Japan or in the Arab world, tried different cultures, different leagues, he prolonged doing his favourite thing for 5+ years. And he should throw all that away because some loser on some forum thinks he should retire in 2019? lol Who do you think you are?

Anyone who would insult Messi because of the potential bad WC in 2026 is retarded anyway, he should base him decisions about his and his family life on people like that? You think Messi sits at home and worries what some poster on forum/x thinks? Not everybody whole life is internet.

You are a really pathetic cunt.

Look how personal you are getting OVER A FUCKING FOOTBALLER WHO DOESN'T KNOW EITHER OF US EXIST. Calling me a loser, you want a fist in your face you cheeky cunt? I am superior to Messi in every single way but playing football (and by-product such as money and fame).

Not to mention I didn't even say 'HE SHOULD THROW IT AWAY!' I said it might make sense to think twice about playing there because he doesn't want to be past it by then. I even said numerous times that it's his decision and I understand why he doesn't wanna give up. But no, thick cunt @TheStig is living so far in Messi's arsehole that he interprets these very gentle comments as scathing criticism.

I never said he worries what I think, you imbecile. But going by that logic no professional listens to any of us anyway so might as well shut down the forum then, right?

'Who do you think you are?'

Just because me or you or anyone here isn't a famous footballer doesn't make us any less important as humans than Messi, you inbred waster.

To reiterate, I thought you were a good poster but you are really a celebrity worshipping cocksucker who sees criticism when there is none.
