Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

If you were to rank his dribbling, shooting and passing from 1-3 how would it look?
Honestly, I am not sure. That top right Messi subreddit has some insane stats that in his 91 goal year he was scoring goals from extremely low xG and was a massive statistical outlier - but at the same time his passing, vision (which helps a lot with executing passing) and dribbling are GOAT level too.

He and Maradona are probably the GOAT dribblers (followed by the likes of George Best and Garrincha), he's a different type of passer to a midfielder - he can play the short passing game to dictate the game, but he really comes into his own with those lofted diagonals and those little chipped through balls, and other through balls. His shooting too is generally so precise and he prefers finesse/placement over power generally, which is my preference too.

I think it's safe to say he's GOAT level in all of passing, dribbling, vision, ability in tight spaces, shooting/finishing, chipping, football IQ, free-kicks (since about 2015 or so) and playmaking (which constitutes many of the former attributes).

I have just never seen a player before who marries goalscoring, dribbling and passing to this extent. Pele is probably the only one close. Maradona wasn't anywhere near the goalscorer (though I suspect he could be if he played in this era and was more professional and more goalscoring-oriented).

But Messi has an All-time great level of the most important attributes in the game. I have not seen anything like it.

Pele is an all time great goalscorer for sure. But dribbling and passing? He had great dribbling ability but not all time level, far from Messi and Maradona. Passing too. He had many assists but not much long passes/through passes/creative passes...

I will give you dribbling - he's not Messi and Maradona level, very very good but not that high.

Passing though, I respectfully disagree. He was a fantastic playmaker and passer. Just one example obviously but the ball for the famous Carlos Alberto goal in the 1970 final was weighted and directed perfectly. I agree he didn't have Maradona and Messi's distance passing, but in short game he was excellent. Not as good as Leo and Diego but still ATG level.

If you disagree though fair enough. Obviously I can't prove what I say as it's subjective.

That assist to Carlos Alberto is nice but tbh it isn't something special. Basically a pass into free space and Pele already saw Alberto ran nearly there. Compare to Messi's assist vs Netherland or Maradona's vs Germany, it is like a kid play.

I watch Pele's match comps and he never was someone who could play great pass consistently. He could assist his teammates but it was more about his GOAT offensive awareness.

Pele was not bad passer at all but i don't think you can say he was an elite one. Ronaldinho for example completely blew Pele out of water when it comes to passing/playmaking.

Fair enough. I tend to agree it wasn't an amazing pass, but the weighting on it was very impressive. Alberto ran right onto it (though it baubled before he hit it, didn't stop him scoring though, lol).

I am a massive fan of Ronnie too so I agree on his passing and playmaking. Maybe you are right on Pele. He definitely leaned more 'athletic' and less 'magician' than Messi, Ronaldinho and Diego.

Great video by the way.
