Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

If you think that Messi is such a sweet and loyal boy who is willing to play for food for Barcelona - that's bullshit. He and his family sucked a lot of money out of this club.

Don't tell me that his influence on the game was also big - well, yes, of course, because the whole team was built so that Leo was comfortable.

We freed him from defensive work, which is nonsense in modern football, bought Vidal, Paulinho to compensate for his passive play without the ball, rebuilt the game scheme not only in defense, but also in attack, since he is a player who loves freedom, wants to constantly receive ball and does not follow the principles of positional football.

Inter Miami was talked about as part of his plan since years ago. Negotiations were happening since then.

Possible that there wasn't even a 'negotiation' per se and he already decided this ages ago, would fit with the fact he took the decision June 7th, that is 3 weeks before his contract even ends.

Here is some news channel stating exactly what happened this 2023 summer a year ago.
Yeah it's been known for ages he'd likely end up at Inter Miami at some point. I think going now is only happening because a PSG renewal was off the table and Barca could never sort itself out financially to sign him for 30m-35m wages.

Will be interesting to see if inter Miami will be Leo’s last club or will he return to Newells in Argentina before retiring

Don't think anyone is claiming he's a knight in shining armour willing to work for peanuts though.

Almost every team builds around their best player. Or tinkers with the system to get the best out of them.

I would have orefered him to do that and play a few years in Argentina. Unfortunately it seems to be to dangerous to go live there for him and his family.

As the former vice-president of Barcelona said, Messi's salary of 100 million+ caused a domino effect.

It doesn’t happen that you have one player who receives 100 million euros, and all the rest no more than 15, if you are not a club from Saudi Arabia, where the stars come to play and get big money compared to other team players.
I do think thats what caused our huge wage bill and financial troubles. But its on that rat Bartomeu in the end.

This whole crying over how much we paid him needs perspective. We got a consistent amount of output from Messi for his wages, even if they were incredibly high. Got more output from him than Coutinho, Dembele, Raphniha and Ferran combined. Total cost of them? about 350m + wages for all the years they were here or are still here. Totalling over 400m. I know what the better deal is.

We also had some level of boost in revenue with him here. The financial troubles happened because the board couldn't foresee a pandemic ruining the clubs finances, could anyone see that coming? We were doing great financially, with the highest ever revenue recorded for a football club.

LMAO some of these clowns wouldn't have been FC Barcelona fans if Messi wasn't here.

It was the best signing in modern football that a big club made. Likes of Real, ManUtd, Juve, AC MIlan, Bayern, Liverpool etc would have taken that deal in hindsight.

But its ok, Messi broke the club. Not 120M Griezmann or all sorts of bums for sums between 20-60M

De Bruyne get 20 million in City, Messi got 100+. Do you think in football terms the return on De Bruyne is less than 5 times? At the same time, keep in mind that De Bruyne is not exempt from defensive work.

Would Leo have created and scored as many goals if he had to participate in pressure and defense like all other players?

Imagine that a second ago you made a lot of high-speed sprints, participating in pressure and defense, and now you got the ball and you need to - make a cool sharpening pass / go into dribbling / advance the ball on the sprint.

Now imagine that you are not involved in defense at all, pressing, you were just standing, your team fought off the opponent’s attack, you got the ball, you are fresh and you need to do the same - give a cool sharpening pass / go into dribbling / advance the ball on jerk. Do you feel the difference?

You're proving my point. Some players offer more for each million spent. But besides that's just what was paid at the end of his time here.

Messi was on 35m in the 2014/2015 season. Nothing for what we got out of him.
2010/2011 - 12m net
2012 - bumped up to 16m.

See how overall the value we got out of Messi was actually very good

Look at you, moaning and crying because Messi got paid big money at Barca. Without Messi Barca wouldn't be the club it is today. And yes it is justified that De Bruyne gets peanuts compared to Messi. Two completely different levels of player. Messi in his mid thirties is still the better player ffs.
