Love him or hate him, peak VVD was the most complete CB ever in his peak.

When was the last time a CB was that influential to his side in an attacker's sport??

Privileged to have watched every game of his peak.

VVD was/is very good, but no, he is not on top alone, several other candidates, and i personally wouldn't even have him as number one.

Yes. The Dutch are not getting the respect they deserve on these forums I feel like at times. Good call.

Well I was lurking on these forums on and off all the time so I can't really speak about that. But all players that they produced and the total football system are enough to put the Dutch in the football hall of fame for me.

Wish he wasn't such a late late bloomer. Imagine the career he'd have if he broke through early. But in terms of peak, he's right up there. Went like 2 years without getting dribbled past playing in a ridiculous high line.

And where does this notion that VVD is the best "offensive cb" even come from?

As if the likes of Ramos or Pique couldn't deliver perfect long balls and switch play all day no problem.

He's the most well rounded.

Pique and Ramos have tons of weaknesses especially in the defensive side of the game.

Also, Ramos is a better goalscorer than VVD but long passing? VVD all day. The only CB from this generation who's as good as VVD in long passing is Toby Alderweireld(Toby is even better at that actually).

Lmao even Bonucci is a better long passer than Ramos. Typical Real Madrid halo. "Won many team trophies so must be better at everything by default."

Sure but CBs like VVD and Toby are simply better long passers.

Apologies for triggering you with facts that you're not ready to accept about the CB with the most red cards.

You aren't triggering me with anything other than nonsense, Ramos on average plays more long passes than VVD does, and overall passing accuracy also better.

VVD hasn't even played an all time great attacker all that often.

The only instance is when he came up against a just out of his prime Messi in 2019 who scored a double on him. Yes, VVD kept Messi scoreless at Anfield but 2 goals in 2 games is not exactly screaming "most complete CB ever".

BBC also scored 3 on Pool in 2018 and that was a declining RM/CR7

CBs like Nesta and Maldini went up against prime R9 and Romario etc. VVD not been tested enough by all time greats in their prime.
