I wouldn't mind if Lewa got it. He got robbed in 2020 and he has been quite good in 2021. Maybe not on prime CR/Messi levels, but it is not his fault that the competition was lacking.

On the other hand, Leo's 2021 was meh for his standards. He had 3 great months in the beginning of the year and a pretty good Copa. That's it. It would be a travesty to win this award after losing in 2017 for example.

He already has 6 and I don't see anyone in the near future getting so many. CR won't reach him. His place in football history is more than secured, 7 Ballons won't make a big difference from 6. It will only give fuel to haters saying that he did not deserve some of the awards.

nobody will ever win 6, let alone 7. messi has that forever. the cr-messi rivalry is done, playing-wise; now its a matter of legacy, of who had the better career.

messi had a crap 2021 barring 5 games in the copa. he was good against weak teams in la liga from january-april, but crap against all tough teams.

Crap by his standards, but between January and Copa he was comfortably a top 3-5 player, even when you take the fanboy glasses off. That means that he was pretty good. Nowhere close to his GOAT level, but pretty good.

His PSG stint though has been a disappointment so far. When you factor only this season, he is nowhere close to the top.

no he wasnt? barcelona had a shitty end of the season with messi as captain. 5th CL humiliation in as many years (or 4th? im not bothered to count the number of times the all time great messi has been eliminated from the CL in the most humiliating, 3+ goals differential fashion)

You are reaching. Last year we were not humiliated, because everyone knew that our whole team was crap. If anything, Messi scored both our goals.

The only player with a clear argument over Messi is Lewandowski.

By your logic, Benzema failed to win weak La Liga and France got kicked out early in the Euros.

Mbappe got his ass kicked both in the CL and in the Euros.

Both of them did not have insane stats or anything. Only Lewa.

Then, who is left? Jorginho? :lol:

lol, this is exactly why i am a BARCELONA fan and not a MESSi fan. only moronic fanboys could actually say, with a straight face, that for a club like ours, 5-2 in the CL round of 16 is not a humiliation--only to save Messi the shame. go be a paris fan boy then if all you care about is messi and his image.

actually both benz and lewa are better than messi right now, and both would deserve the award more. jorginho clearly is not, but he did have a much better season. so for that reason he would be a better winner than messi, because messi is neither the best in the world nor did he have the best season. he has no 'trump' card

you are CR fanboys in reverse--clamoring for messi due to this or that stat or single trophy and not with a view to the actual award, which is who was the best in 2021
