The mentality was maybe the biggest difference because we beat their ass in the league or heads up I think. We never dealt well with controversies and we had very easily mental breakdowns if things went bad.

Real Madrid could bounce back real quick from any defeat thanks to their mentality, while we as club were very fragile, labelled "the best team in the world" and 1/4 final CL exit against Atletico Madrid could ruin the atmosphere easily.

Yeah, CL was out of our comfort zone(KO stage). We were good in our comfort zone, LaLiga, and Copa Del Rey.

Mentality is a secondary problem IMO and mostly to do with bad player recruiting and unwillingness to move on from washed up legends.

In general, our brand of football is more all or nothing, much like Ajax.

Ajax have won the European Cup/CL 4 times, and all 4 of those teams are considered some of the best club sides in CL history. European double or treble each time, I believe.

Same with Barca. All 5 of our CL winning teams won the European double, and some of them like 08-09, 10-11, 14-15 are in the top 5 CL sides ever conversation.

Meanwhile, more balanced teams like RM, Milan, Pool succeed in CL without domestic dominance. Those clubs prefer the cup format almost.

With slightly better mentality we would have won CL 2018/2019

I truly believe if the Camp Nou game vs. Liverpool had ended in some 3-2 (remember they hit the bar and few misses) win for us we would have played the return leg with much more focus at Anfield. Too much complacency and the electricity in the crowd attending made the difference.

I guess it makes sense. It's tougher to win in style and every trophy than just one cup with meh play, while playing good defense, but getting a few lucky bounces your way. You can do that with enough quality in the squad, like Chelsea last season.

Right now, Barca would have better results, if they could play "meh" game, meaning they could defend, but they can't. It's pretty frustrating. We could at least defend and keeps games close, but we can't even do that vs top teams. We get embarrassed.

If Barto picked Mbappe instead of Dembele we would have 6 CLs by now. :worthy:
If those rumours about Monaco offering Mbappe to Barcelona were true...

Barca can't afford this Chelsea style simply because we are lacking great midfield for a long time. Koeman tried a more conservative approach, it worked for a month or two and after that it collapsed as well. We are hostage of our own philosophy to hold the ball and create chances, but to do that you need the perfect fitting elements, which we lack in every area.
