Saying valverde made Messi good and then ignoring the change in manager and personel, while claiming that manager will fail, to make Messi's absence from the team look small, on the first season since decades that we failed to advance from cl groups sound like a W to some??
Messi played under koeman too you know. With all the garbage players that don't get a glimpse of game time now. Keep it real.

Rest assured, some clowns in here would have waited even 5 years to come with this shit take. 'Hey, but look, we're doing just fine without Messi!'

Messi was Barcas best player clearly but team gave up a lot for him that other top teams wont.

Right move for both of them to move on it was going nowhere.

PSG is best place for him to try and win a CL.

It's difficult to say if we would be better or not with Messi (what an incredible thing to say at face value) because the signings we made may not have been able to come if Messi was here, with our FFP issues.

On one hand, we would still be stuck in Messidepencia and no one would freely express their game (so someone like Adama could never come in, anyone remember Suarez and Messi reactions the first time round?), on the hand Xavi has given everyone a lift and guys like Pique and Alba are showing their best level in a while.

But speaking seriously, if we could have managed yesterdays lineup with Messi instead of Adama and Xavi as manager then we should be a much better side.

Mertens: "You'd think that if Messi leaves, there would be no Barcelona anymore. But no, they still play great. It's a shame, and we weren't good."

Mertens basically confirming BBZ and Serghei were right

Yeah, we just needed 3 new signings in attack, change in coaching and playing in EL to look better.

That being said, it is good to have 3 attackers who can run for the first time since 2016.
Now, a tough job is there to replace the defensive unit

Would rather see team playing as did yesterday than trying to play for Messis moments with slower game and covering for him off the ball.

That time has gone and wasnt winning.

Team plays completely differently if Messi there.

Would prime Messi improve this team? Definitely. Would current Messi improve Barca? Probably not. Messi isnt good enough anymore to focus the attack on him. Messi himself is surely glad to play for PSG as he has a chance to win the cl with them. So both sides are happy.

Still a big negative point about Messi, we are seeing this at PSG. He needs to trust the midfield players more and should make runs into the box instead of running back and demand for the ball which slows down the gameplay.

If we sign Haaland or some superstar who is young and in their prime and win the CL in 2024.

The Anti-Messi brigade will probably also use that as "evidence" that Messi was THE problem at Barca all along

In my opinion, it's pretty obvious Messi was part of the problem past 2018-2019 season. That looks like his last push for a CL in terms of full motivation and effort. This version? Washed up and unmotivated.

Was the right time to move on overall.

You guys can kid yourselves all you want, the collective press we do lately is just not possible with old Messi walking around 90% of the time without any defensive responsibilities whatsoever.

With some details different, we win the treble in 2019, and the league in 2021. And give him a proper send-off. Wasn't to be.

There's a difference between THE problem (which I highlighted) and being part of the problem. No one is saying we had prime Messi in 2020-2021. He had increasing issues as he aged.

BBZ's take was that ANY Barca attacker (including Braithwaithe) was better than Messi in 2020-2021 and Messi scored 38 goals in that season while on the decline and won Copa. So in what world was BBZ right on that take?

OK, BBZ is a special case that reducts an argument to the most negativistic version of it. Messi was a big problem only for the rebuilding process. Which we could no longer postpone. The longer you kept Messi the more you delayed a true rebuilding of this team.

It's very good for the team that Gavi, Pedri, and De Jong can develop and express themselves without feeling the obligation to pass to Messi all the time.
