His decision to leave was based solely on money. Again, he is free to do what he wants; I just don?t agree with the guy above saying that he wanted to stay. If he had wanted to stay, a solution would have been found based on mutual respect and loyalty.

If his decision to leave was based ONLY on money , he would have been in Qatar , UAE, USA , China or wherever he would have gotten the most amount of money. He earns at PSG half of what he did in his last 4 years at Barcelona. If there was a way for a contract to be made with that salary , Barca would have done it.

I don't think he would have been able to play for free due to some law (iirc) stating that your new working contract can't be less than 50% of what it was before , and in the end it would have been highly disrespectful to demand from him to play for free while the rest of players receive a salary. I don't think anyone would accept that.

Messi didnt decide to leave for money he wanted to stay.

There is not a player going at Messis level that would play for free.

By that argument every player in world not playing for free is just in it for the money.

In regards to the last paragraph, that has been rebuked, I believe. No such law exists. Do you have a credible source for that?

Second, he is earning more money at QSG than he will ever make again. Of that I am sure! He is swimming in gold! 😂 of course his decision to leave us was financially motivated.

Barca asked Messi if he would take a 50% paycut and he accepted.

The club never once asked if he would take a bigger paycut so they would be able to register him. Maybe he would have said, maybe he would have said no.

But they never asked and pretty much told him they cannot renew him and were moving on. With all the rumors and reports from multiple journalists regarding Pique?s role in advising Laporta to move on from Messi it feels more like a significant part of the board also just wanted to move on from him and start a rebuild even though it certainly does not feel like they are rebuilding with guys like Azpi and Alonso rumored to join.

Especially considering they were not willing to sign that CVC deal.

But the club never asked him if he was willing to play for 10m for example. Tough to know how he would respond but he wanted to stay and thought he was staying until told its over.

I feel like some fans like delancey over here are struggling with coping with that Messi is no longer a Barca player so making up stuff

I mean , other than Messi , Laporta , and pretty much all the newspapers saying so at that moment , no.

Second, he is earning more money at QSG than he will ever make again. Of that I am sure! He is swimming in gold! of course his decision to leave us was financially motivated.

That was one of the reasons but not the only one or the main one.

Messi didnt really accept a 50% pay cut as they were trying to pay him 50m a season when he may not even be at club.

Also not so much a pay cut when signing a contract at 34 as opposed to 31/32. All players would have to accept decrease in salary then really.

For Messi I think only Man City or PSG were options.

Both would have given him a chance to win another UCL title on paper and gave him some familiarity with Pep at City and Paredes, di Maria, Neymar at PSG.

City were not interested so PSG became the obvious choice.

Pep was never signing Messi.

That is precisely what I said.

Yeah so was never an option.

Seems like he tried his best to get Pep to sign him the summer before but City were not prepared to make a bid or get involved in him leaving for free and by all accounts told Messi to stay as best option.

Yeah so was never an option.

Like I said City were never interested.

Think you misunderstood what I meant.

I meant that if Messi ever was to leave Barca which he did, only two clubs would be options for him due to UCL chances + familiarity.

Ah right I thought you said as if he had those options last summer.

PSG was best choice for him particularly when still has such focus on intl football. Ticked all boxes.

Wait, so City and Pep wanted to sign Mr. Gucci more than Messi?

Isn't Pep the biggest Messisexual out there? Find this hard to believe ngl.
