You could say the game against City had something to do with lacking focus or whatever due to just having won the title, maybe, maybe not, but its clear they've been on a downward trend for a little while.

Next season may not be so cozy, they could really use a couple of signings.

Yep. Not been same since Atleti defeat.

Next season won't have anything to do with their form since the Atleti defeat.
It's not as if that defeat has shown anything but that they are a bit too arrogant and assume everyone's the same at Anfield. Which is fine in 95% of cases where opponents don't have enough quality, experience and fortitude to resist them, but doesn't apply to everyone like they like to think. But average teams who didn't get results at Anfield will probably still remain unable to get them, Atleti hasn't shown they're vulnerable in any way.

It'll have everything to do with their ability to reset. Which hasn't been tested. Klopp already had a soundbite ("we won't be defending the title, we will be attacking it"), so he's onboard, but he knows it's a mostly uncharted territory for him also. He's not won back to back titles in a decade.

Liverpool absolutely battered Atletico at Anfield and on any other day they win comfortably.

Similar to Barca v Chelsea although Liverpool were even more dominant.

There wont be any panick at Liverpool due to that result. They have had tougher games in EPL that they have won.

reminds me of 2015-16. we were the best team in the world, better than 2014-15, then atletico killed our momentum and we almost bottled the league.

i do think if city get banned Liverpool will try their best to get KdB.

(van dijk posted this for some reason)

they sign KDB and they will win the PL for the next 2 seasons

Has nothing to do with how the game went vs Atletico, it's the mental effect of going out in round of 16 while being champions etc. Be dumb to think that wouldn't affect a team.

It wont affect them.

Anymore than Real being all that affected by same thing happening to them last season and possibly again this season.

Dumb to assume they will crumble when know were better team and these things happen in football.

Winning the league massively eclipses any CL last 16 exit.

I dont expect them to crumble, as you put it, im just expecting a more difficult season, if the current trend continues.

It is almost inevitable that they have a more difficult season but not due to that CL exit. I would bet they go further in CL next time round.

Liverpool had already tailed off a bit domestically before Atleitco put them out.

Yes, Liverpool's playing worse and worse. Their level has been dropping for a while.

No evidence of that and no way to assign probabilities of it repeating itself. Same flawed argument can be made that Real would have won the Lisbon final 10/10 times just because they battered Atletico all game.

There won't be panic, but not because they got unlucky, but because they're full of themselves to the point that they'd not change the plan assuming what happened was an anomaly that wouldn't repeat itself.

Doesn't matter. They achieved their main goal by mid-Feb. New things start in August and it may resume all the same.

The lack of panic will be because they were by far the better team v Atletico and on another day beat them comfortably.

That leads to their confidence in their own approach and realise those things happen in football.

Also the league was far and away their bigger priority this season and it eclipses the 'unlucky' CL defeat and confirms the approach that has made them EPL, CL and World Club Cup holders.

Underachieving doesn't just 'happen'. It happens for a reason. They didn't score for a big part of the game, because their personnel clearly struggled stylistically to beat Atleti. Missing sitters can be as much an accident as it can be a symptom. They've struggled before in similar situations. And they've conceded because they a) responded poorly when going ahead 2-0; b) made mistakes as a collective, not just the keeper.

Dogma is never good. They'll have this problem again more than once if they don't recognise it.

No their style was perfectly fine but in football those games can happen and they dominated and created chances v Atletico and didnt take them. Which was then compunded bu a GK howler from Adrian.

You have it totally wrong. Liverpool do not think their style is unbeatable they think it is their best chance to win going forward and wont look to change things based on a game v Atletico they dominated

They are EPL, CL and world club cup winners based on their approach and have been proven correct in it.

Doesnt mean they wont tweak things and look to improve further as every single other team do.

Nah. Adrian did as much wrong as his defenders did by allowing Atleti to get in the position to shoot. A shot for 2-1 especially could have been even better than what Llorente did and keeper'd have no chance from that position, but because it was average and could have been saved he's seen as the sole reason for Liverpool not having control of the ultimate score.
Shedding responsibility for the score on one individual is the most deplorable thing about Liverpool. Done it before with Karius. It's never a one man problem when your team barely manage a goal over 90 mins.

They do think it's unbeatable, especially on their own ground. They use the cockiness to give themselves false sense of confidence, especially when they know they're actually up for a challenge while normally they don't need to since most teams are no match.

For sure, they can tweak it. We'll see how they go about that.
