As I said in the suggestions thread as well as doing a virtual manager Barca I am going to do one for Liverpool.
I've just come back from Boston and a meeting with Henry and Werner. I have a £25m budget plus money from player sales. My target for 2013/14 is to challenge for a top 4 place and be more competitive in the cups.
After evaluating the squad I have put the following onto the transfer list and they are eventually sold:-
Brad Jones:- Free transfer.
Sebastian Coates:- £4m to Napoli.
Jon Flanagan:- £500k to Bolton
Jay Spearing £1.5m to Wigan P/Ex.
Jonjo Shelvey:- £3m to West Ham.
Stewart Downing £7m to WBA.
The Following players have asked to leave and I have sold them:-
Pepe Reina:- £8m to Barca
Martin Skrtel:- £8m to Anzhi.
The Following player is retired:-
Jamie Carragher.
Back from loan:-
Andy Carroll
Hence I am left with a total of £57m to improve the squad.
I need to now get a new GK and back up GK.
Ali Al Habsi as my back up as part of the Jay Spearing deal.
Simon Mignolet for £9m plus Wisdom on loan.
So that is my goalkeeper situation sorted. Reina and Jones out for £8m and Al Habsi and Mignolet in for £9m.
I need and want some competition for Jose Enrique at left back. Luke Shaw is the best young left back in england. So I target him and show him that our development of young players here is of paramount and the opportunity is there. I want to get in before the likes of Chelsea or Spurs go for him, so I bid high at £10m with another £5m added on in if he is successful i.e. appearances etc. But I only pay out £10m now. I think he's worth the risk seeing the lack of top class left backs in europe and england and is the heir to Ashley Cole for England. Arsenal paid out high to Ox. and Walcott and I follow a similar pattern for Shaw.
So I have £38m left.
Next I concentrate on central defence. With Coates, Carra and Skrtel gone I need 2 players here. I spend £7.5m for Coloccini and £9m on Lovren.
Now I have £21.5m.
Next I concentrate on getting a partner and competition for Lucas. I spend £7.5m on Victor Wanyama.
I now have £14m.
I believe the squad needs an AM but I haven't much cash now. I decide to spend £7m on Ludovic Obraniak.
I then bid £7m for Loic Remy. I throw in Assaidi and Yesil on loan which is accepted!
Now I have the composition of my squad:-
GK:-Mignolet, Al Habsi, Gulacsi
RB:- Johnson, Kelly.
LB:- Enrique, Shaw, Robinson
CB:- Agger, Coloccini, Lovren
MD:- Gerrard, Henderson, Lucas, Allen, Wanyama
AM:- Coutinho, Obraniak, Suso
FD:- Suarez, Carroll, Remy, Sterling, Sturridge, Borini
My First XI would be:-
-----------------------------Mignolet--------------------------------
----Johnson---------Agger----------Lovren---------------Shaw-------------
------------------------------Lucas-------------------------------------------
-------------------Henderson------------Gerrard----------------------------
--------------Suarez------------Sturridge----------------Coutinho------------
So in reserve I have Al Habsi, Kelly, Coloccini, Enrique, Allen, Wanyama, Obraniak, Suso, Carroll, Remy, Sterling and Borini.
This gives me lots of options in midfield and attack. If want want to play someone alongside Lucas then Wanyama or Allen can come in. If Henderson and Gerrard are unfit, suspended or not in form then Obraniak and Suso can come in. For that front three line I have Remy, Sterling and Borini who can cover those positions.
Carroll I want to keep. His physicality will be useful to me and gives me another option.
This squad allows me to rotate players, especially Gerrard who is a year older, and not decrease the team massively. I'd have a strong bench allowing me to make the best use of whatever circumstance during the game.
Out of the 19 home games I will target 14 wins and 5 draws so 47 points. Of the away games I will target 8 wins, 5 draws and expect 7 losses meaning a total of 29 points. So a total of 76 points. I wouldn't expect no defeats at Anfield by I'd target remain undefeated at home, however I know we'll probably lose 2 or 3 meaning that target goes down to 68-70 points. Which is touch and go for 4th.
The virtual manager lark. Piece of piss
