I hope Coutinho being called in the squad -with Arthur & Vidal out- is just a "let's not tank his value even more" type of move.

Suppose whether he starts or comes on as sub might give us an idea how advanced the transfer talks are regarding him. Doubt he’ll start if a deal was close. Imagine doing a Sane 2.0 and we can’t sell him lol
Reading too much into this mate.
He won't start no matter what tonight and it has nothing to do with his transfer status.
He is not match fit and Dembele is currently ahead of him.
Pretty sure this will be the last season for valverde and many names will follow him. Cant wait to get rid of rakitic and co.

Imo, both Cou, Vidal, Arthur and Messi are not ready yet.
But we have only 3 fit attackers: Griezz, Suarez, Dembele.
And lost of fit midfielders: Busi, Raki, Frenkie, Roberto, Alena, Rafinha.
So, if 1-2 midfielders get injured during a match or we need different options, we have 6 different options.
In attack, if someone gets injured or need a sub, we don't have anyone, except playing Rafinha, Roberto or Alena as an attacker.
This is why in this match Cou was way more needed than Arthur or Vidal.
Cou will be the 4th attacker.
Arthur or Vidal would have been one out of 7 or 8 midfielders.
Makes sense actually. Coutinho would be probably the only forward to bring from the bench if somehow the match goes wrong.

Or injury.
Imagine Dembele injured early.
Then you have:
1. Cou
2. 442
3. Or Rafinha/Roberto in attack
No matter how meh Cou is as a Lw, he is still miles better than all other current options.
