Todibo should have started.
Todibo will never start under Valverde at 19-20 years old even if he was shooting rainbows out of his arse. Ernie is one of those guys who think experience is ultra high in his list of qualities. Only way Todibo would play at this age is if he was one of the great central defense talents of all time, and even then I doubt Ernie would have an eye to spot something like that. Something like a Maldini. Truth be told, he's not there and has flaws which are characteristic of his age, so if he is to play and start in a game like this, it would only by possible under a progressive bold manager. We all know Valverde is super-conservative (opposite of progressive) and as much of a football coward as it gets.
I do agree though that if you are conservative and you hate risks, it is at least logical to not play Todibo at this point. So Valverde is conservative, and coward, but in this case he is at least logical and consistent with his beliefs.
