Their league has been very poor for a long time now as well. The last couple of years Liverpool and city have really stepped up their level and i feel as though the rest of the league is will also be increasing their levels the coming seasons as well. Will see what happens though

Said all season whoever wins it this year will be the weakest champions in a long time. It wasn't strong the last couple of years but Messi dragged a mediocre team over the line. This year Barca have got even worse and a genuine shambles but still kept within a few points of a Madrid team that have relied on a lot of dodgy VAR calls.

Ronaldo leaving was maybe the catalyst for the real drop off.

In the past Real and Barca have had their bad seasons but Valencia, Depor or Atleti have stepped up to win it. Even Sociedad and Sevilla were close to winning the league in the 2000s. And the last 10 years when Real and Barca have dominated, Sevilla and Atleti have dominated the Europa League or done well in CL.

Yeah I agree in recent history athletico stepped up in the league when we or Madrid didn't. However all 3 clubs have dropped their levels with mediocre (more so substandard) rebuild partial or otherwise.
