Lucas Digne

Digne has kept it clean almost whenever he played. Clean and tidy. He's no Douglas, ffs.

I have doubts Cucurella does well enough. But like the kid and it could show some trust. Not the end of the world.

Digne is no threat going forward, hell he doesn't even know how to do it. And in defense, his opponents get past him waaay to easily. He actually looks like a green young player who needs to learn how to play at the highest level.
He's no Douglas sure. Man Douglas is the absolute fraud lol.

But Digne is same level as guys like Vidal and Montoya approximately. This kind of players will never be Barça level. I mean at PSG Digne couldn't even compete with a 33 years old Maxwell and fucking Laywin Kurzawa of all people, that's why he left. The same Maxwell that used to be a bench warmer at Barça during his prime. The same Kurzawa who got benched by Yurri Berchiche lmao. That speaks volume. Ok Digne was 22 years old back then but he didn't improve that much since.

I guarantee you that a Barça B left back couldn't be much worse than Digne.

To be fair being "no Douglas" doesn't mean much

He isn't a bad player, just the definition of a average and replaceable squad player for Barca standards.

Roberto did, no? Digne adds pretty much nothing going forward, so I dont think it would be too bad to try Roberto or Lenglet (more defensive option). If you want to establish Semedo as the starting right back it wouldnt be too bad for Roberto to get playing time-. Lahm for example managed to play both right- and leftback. Roberto seems intelligent/adaptable enough for me to make it work (Digne is the benchmark as backup - not impossible^^).

I think he's one of those losses we won't feel because he was so average; but if the fee is really low, like below 20m kind of low, is it really worth the hassle? I mean, I don't know what Valverde has planned for LB; if he feels Lenglet or one of the Masia kids can cover, then great, but will the La Masia kids be able to do what Digne did? Keep it simple and not be a huge liability in the team.

Though to be honest, I've really been looking forward to getting a proper LB signing, someone for Alba to compete with, and maybe provide something different in attack; Alba is very one dimensional and when his usual Messi pass and run moves don't work, we seem to have a lack of ideas.

His pace is what stands out as best ability, but his poor positioning in defence takes away this advantage, especially on counter-attacks. Also only recently he started to show signs of growth in attacking plays, which was mostly copying Jordi Alba's moves. Nobody in the club would settle for a value below 20m, I'm sure of that.

I hope Valverde promotes a La Masia talent for that reserve spot and if that kid struggles then it should be Umtiti/Lenglet scenario when Alba is absent.

But he isn't even pacey, he has CB level of pace, something like Umtiti maybe even worse. He did his job defensively every time, at his last games he actually looked like he knew what to do when he got the ball when he was in attack, definitely was the best LB backup in the world, but I guess if he wants first team consistent football then I'm OK with him leaving us.

Now this I can accept. If you want a guy who can compete with Alba, then we probably need to buy a talented LB. But Digne for sure isn't competition for Alba. The ideal case scenario would be to buy a young promising LB who could compete with Alba straight away, and later become our starting LB. I heard Miranda from youth academy is promising, maybe he could be this guy who knows ? IMO we had that guy for free in Grimaldo, he was and still is the most promising young LB. His selling was stupid. The thing is that he seems to be a little bit injury prone so we'll have to wait to see if he'll optimize his talent.

Anyway, if Miranda really is that promising, we probably shouldn't buy a new LB. Just promote Cucurella to the first team for 1-2 years before Miranda's emergence.

Agree with that. Digne's pace is average for a full back. Everything about him is average. So if we can get good money, just sell him.

He's a good backup lb, can't see why we are selling him when we have 4-5 other players that are of no use.

Rumored fee is pathetic for epl clubs.

I would agree with that. He's just decent, but what do we have as alternative? Seems a bit desperate to sell in order to raise funds.

You guys want to bet on the youth system but when it´s done the criticism appears :)

Digne wanted out to play more. Understandable.
He´s easier to sell than Gomes and Alcacer, obviously.
