Montoya and Song were both surplus to requirements here long before Lucho came in.

I meant the circumstances, I'm not only blaming Lucho. Tito and Tata did the same. Bought Song as a sub but barely used, and Montoya was the only sub for RB position so he wasn't surplus or anything but he was barely used too. He could have left to Valancia in 2011 but Barca convinced him to stay and that mistake killed his career.

One option is that he killed his career because he didn't play regularly.
The other option is that it would be more or less the same whether he played 10 or 110 matches, because he is just not good enough footballer for Top10 teams in La liga.

It is hard to say what would happen, but Montoya isn't particularly good neither in attack nor in defense.
Not to mention that he has a questionable desire for training, giving 120% at trainings and matches etc.

So, maybe our coaches killed him.
Or a combo of his average footballing skills, poor footballing professionalism and low amount of minutes killed his career.

VPersie again.

But we'll sign one out of Vietto/Gameiro, probably.

I think that papers are playing the games again, the same as in Neymar's case, when MD was publishing how other teams want him and then keeping him was an insane success by our board.

Some drama is added now, to make the board look even better when they get (probably) Vietto.

Or Vietto is really having second thoughts, and this story is released so that we can scare him and show that he needs to sign for us fast or we will look for other options.

I still don't believe that we could lose both of them.
There will be new twists today and tomorrow surely.

I don't think Neymar's case is really a good example to compare. Some people were panicking but there was no doubt for me that he'll renew. Yes, there was media speculations linking him to PSG and other clubs but that was more his agent and father trying to get the best possible contract for him during negotiations. In no moment did I believe that some club is really willing to pay his release clause, all taxes and also make him the best paid footballer in the world.

Yes, the same day we announce his renewal (or maybe a day before) MD was running stories that United IIRC is pushing hard to get him and that was to make the board look good when he renewed as you mentioned. I can agree with that.

I don't think that's the case for Vietto though. I really believe he's just unsure what to do. He has to decide between playing with his his idol and possibly winning big trophies but having a limited playing time if he joins us or getting a lot more playing time (which every player, especially at his age wants) and playing under great offensive coach like Sampaoli who I believe could get his career back on track after he wasted this last season in Atletico.

I believe we have a deal with Atletico as MD is saying but now it's up to Vietto to decide. Like Cerezo said a couple of days ago he should be where he wants to be and I don't think Atleti will make him any problems whatever he decides to do. They'd probably prefer to loan him to Sevilla so that they can get Gameiro in return and also possibly get Vietto back if he develops good but if they can sell him for more than the price they paid last summer I think they'll do it too. And then use that money to get Gameiro or whoever their target is. I still believe that Cholo prefers Diego Costa but Cerezo has apparently upset Chelsea last week when he said they are close to get him back and now they don't want to sell. Or maybe Conte is really counting on him, who knows.

But whatever will happen I expect to happen today or at least tommorow before Atletico go to Australia.

Looks like he's too scared to fight for playing time here.

In that case: No thanks, we need confident players.

He's already had a season on the bench. This is nothing to do with being scared or confidence. Just being smart, as other forwards have been according to Robert.

Will be interesting to see who we go after now. He is joining Sevilla on loan with 20M buy option.

Nothing to do with courage/confidence, players need to play or even be a regular contributor. Here, it was unlikely he would be which makes the sort of profile of player needed that much more difficult to accomodate.

And as others have correctly pointed out, we do have two cantera players without a club with the team who can play winger and RB. Still, Nolito was the ideal option all things considered

Nolito said he rejected Barca himself. He knew he had a bigger chance to play regularly for City, which wasn't going to be the case at Batca.
