I dont blame Lucho, the team he played today should have been good enough to beat Alaves. He saw this as a game to rest a couple of key players, he gave Mathieu and Vidal a chance and he didnt take it. Now Lucho will know Umtiti is more trustworthy than Mathieu.

The team he played today lacked chemistry. And the defense was really bad. Can't play Vidal without Pique. Masch also was more tired than Geri. The blame is all his.

I agree team lacked chemistry, but we lost today because of mistakes more than how bad the team was. if Masch was tired, then so is Pique and he shouldnt have played either. He made a mistake giving these players a chance yes, but same way we wouldnt give all the credit to him if we had won , we cant give all the blame to him because we lost.

My issue is this, there were way too many 'banana-peel' players in this match that shouldn't have been there in the first place...

Paco- The guy has had like 1 training as a Barca player
Vidal- Always a risk and can't be counted on
Neymar- Just returned after being away for months
Masch- Just returned from international duty overseas
Jasper- Although he wasn't at fault, has also had minimal training and obviously isn't commanding at organizing defence like MaTS does

Lucho messed it up, but then again he has a trend of messing up at the start of every season. It's not a big surprise.

Edit: Forgot Matheiu- Who was just coming back from injury as well.

Masch played 2 intense matches in south america. Had to flight back. Pique wasn't as tired as he was. And of course we can give him the blame. Team was disjointed. Too many new faces at once. He went overboard with the rotations.

My thoughts:

-Yeah, way too much rotation, especially with the back line. Umtiti would have probably been a stronger option than Mathieu but overall, that RB position could be a worry for us. Vidal simply doesn't not get it when it comes to positioning off the ball, gets caught ball watching too much and doesn't really get marking. Hope Bob can step up but that's going to be an area of concern for us, and Alaves exploited that side well tonight, as will every other team who plays us.

-Tactically, I don't like how narrow our three is. The center of the pitch for us is always crowded with players wanting the ball but coming back to it and you mix that in with the opposition and there is absolutely no space to pass, no space to move. Too many times Arda was behind Paco instead of out wide to stretch the opposition and give space for the MFs to run. We have to be better at exploiting space inbetween MF and defenses lines and the best way to open up that space is to have options out wide that force their wider players to be honest.

-I'm really getting a bit frustrated with Rakitic. He's great at ticking passes, he's physical and he's a good defender but offensively, he's best at bursting forward but making plays through a pass and putting a forward in on goal isn't his strongest suit. He really needed to step up tonight and be a spark for us through the middle and he had chances on goal that he fluffed too. Maybe I'm being harsh on him and it is early in the season so players are finding their club form again but there has been other games in the past where I feel he hasn't created enough with the amount of minutes he sees on the pitch. He's gotta step up or I'd like to see Gomes get more of his minutes, at least to see if he really can be something

-Lastly, it was really 50/50 on whether or not Paco should have started or not but his performance left a lot to be desired. What I'm worried about is that he's going to take time to really learn how to work the channels against these packed defenses and Munir, at least with what he showed in preseason, was looking to have figured that out better. Paco has to move more, learn to drop deep when we need that forward pass to get the lines shifted forward so not sure why Lucho gave him so much time. I'd have hooked him at half-time to let Suarez get into the game more.

Hope we bring it for Celtic, team needs to get some points, confidence and form before Lucho should rotate like that.

It's unfair to pin it all on Lucho. The defense, and Masch in particular, was very poor today. Vidal, Mathieu and the forwards were careless in their finishing (Mathieu's goal was a difficult one. Ironically, not long after the 1-1 Mathieu missed a far easier chance when he had an open net to shoot at). MSN was decidedly off-key, and even Iniesta was misplacing passes. Lucho certainly overrotated (Vidal and Mathieu as fullbacks was a terrible idea) but the players should share the blame as well.

It's better to lose early in the season while there are plenty of points available, rather than in March or April when they are scarce. We lose games like this every year--it's just one of those things.

He rested too many players, there was no real need to rest the European players, i can see why he rested Messi and Suarez, but that's it given that we have a tendency to struggle after the Fifa break.

Roberto, pique, alba should have started at the back.
Such is football though.

The only positive is that he has the balls to rotate nothing else.

Too bad he dropped his brain while at it. People will say hindsight is 20/20, but it's not the first time..

I want him to rotate, but not the entire backline at once....... It's incredibly risky.

Roberto - Masche - Umtiti - Digne

Now this is something. Two players, Digne and Masche coming in the Starting XI. This is how it should be done. Next game you can go with Roberto - Pique - Masche - Alba

And if you want to rest Roberto, there's a lot of chances for doing so. When we're leading comfortably you can sub him out and bring the disaster Vidal in or switch to a 3 man backline by bringing on Umtiti or Mathieu.

Eh, well, no biggie. We win vs Ateltico on Camp Nou and we're back on track. And beat Madrid in the clasico too. We should win both games against our rivals to make up for these lost points.

Luis Enrique said in his post-match press conference that he is the responsible of the defeat. He spoke about the squad rotations and the many changes he did in the line-up.

About the match

"We didn't think that they would play 5-4-1. And it was difficult to adapt to that. We were weak in defense too".
"Everything came together. We didn't creat enough chances and they, with only three shots, scored a couple of goals".

Rotations

"I am responsible. The changes came because of the situations we had. But we are 22, not 11 or 12".
"The calendar is like this. Flights and trips don't let us play some of our players".

It seems he(or anyone from his team) didn't watch any matches from alaves. Not good. You need to know who you're playing against.
