I guess seeing his mates Messi and Pique and Spaniards Xavi, Iniesta and Pedro winning leagues and CLs while he wasn't winning anything in Arsenal probably pushed him to make the move.

Modric was voted as flop of the season in 12/13 from real fans, nobody could have thought he will become 10 levels better 1 season later

That story has always been overblown. That voting was done in December, 3 months after he came to Madrid, not even the halfway point of the season.

Absolutely incredible player and leader. It's really a great gesture and unexpected behavior by Real to let him retire on his own terms. He will become the oldest player to ever play for Real at the beginning of the next season and i think that record will stand for eternity, i have a hard time imagining another 39+ year old playing for them in the future.
