Malcom

Where can Malcom and Dembele play when we have Messi around? Coutinho is too attacking to play in the midfield three. Malcom and Dembele could create havoc on either side of a number 9 up front. Thats where they would excel.

You just denied the whole question yourself by saying that Coutinho can't play in midfield 3 because hes "too attacking". Imo he isn't stupid, he will play where manager will assign him to play, he already played in midfield 3 and was fine.

So very limited playing time for Malcom and Dembele in that scenario in other words. I doubt we'll see much of Dembele and Malcom up front with Messi as false 9 and Coutinho in midfield.

in the MF of 3, you need one attacking MF who is creative which fits the profile of Coutinho. Iniesta was advanced MF for many years before switching into deeper CM role to fill Xavi's role.

I think Coutinho is far more attacking oriented than Iniesta. Coutinho is a good goal scorer who loses the ball far more often and lacks composure which is so important for our midfielders. He's more like Cesc than Iniesta.

True. Iniesta wasnt as good goal scorer but he didn't lose the ball nearly as often as Cout. Different roles I would say. Coutinho is more like a left winger.

Iniesta was better team player as well. Defensively.

Don’t really understand why people think Coutinho is “too attacking” when you have sides like City who play with a midfield three of Fernandinho, David Silva and Bernardo Silva - one DM and two AM’s, yet we can’t play with a DM, CM (Arthur/Rakitic/Vidal) & an AM?

Most top sides have at least one creative outlet in midfield. People moan about Barca’s static, lacklustre MF but don’t actually want to play a creative midfielder in it? Coutinho ran more than any other midfielder in the World Cup until Brazil’s exit. He’s perfectly capable of playing midfield.

Well City has Pep and we have Valverde who can't even play more than 2 strikers without cowering in fear

I can see why people would say Cou is "too attacking" but thats not universally true for every game and every lineup. Right now we have lazy/old strikers (even Suarez doesn't defend like he used to), an overall slow team especially midfield and little to no pressing in many of our games. We also lose the ball in situations we shouldn't too often.

So for this combination Cou can be risky there. Some changes and another coach and that could be a whole other story.

Won't be surprised if it does turn out to be true. When a guy like Denis gets a spot on the bench ahead of you, then it's game over.

denis and malcom do not play the same position what logic is that even...

dembele was on the bench, if malcom took his place you would be saying the same bullshit with other name.

If he can learn to run deep, then he should play. We all know that Messi thrives with wingers that make cutting runs and that all of our best sides have featured them.
