As I said earlier, back in 2015 were we close to signing Gerson, I mean really close around 95% done. Roma came in out of nowhere and put in a bid at 20 million euros snatching him away from us. It's football and it's a business as well.
Monchi knows this as well. He's perhaps the best in the business at finding talent for cheap and reselling them at high prices. He had his fair share of Gazumps in his career.

Transfers like Malcom and Arthur are exactly what we need. But imo we still need to make sure the management can handle such young and unproven players, but filled with skills and talent you can shape into a great player in a short amount of time. So far I'm yet to see a young player developing under Valverde.
So far, I'm skeptical. This guy seems much more adept at squeezing some good few years from aging players, than at promoting top young players. He seems to even like veterans more than young players.

Why are they so bitter when nobody forced Malcom to chose us? He could've been adamant that he won't go anywhere else other than Roma and that would be the end. AFAIK Bordeaux agreed to a deal with Roma for the same money, this morning. Looks like they should be angry with Malcom and Bordeaux.

It's a good deal. Complete 180 on the Willian thing, if it was ever happening.
Point is that you still have a locker room led by senior Suarez-Alba-Pique with Messi-Busquets as your captains, Rakitić as somewhat of a mediator between the generations whose style wasn't even defined at Barca and everything else is a complete accessory. You could sign absolutely ANY 20 year old and they'd be as meek of a piece as anybody. You need a fresh experienced face capable of ACTUALLY BENCHING any of the above to give Valverde someone to lean on with system implementation. Arthur and Lenglet COULD be those pieces, but they're probably too young. Coutinho COULD be that too IF he is central to success this season.
Malcom is great for the long-term. But short-term leadership is still not addressed.

I had a deja vu with that last sentence.
Remember in season 2016-2017, When we signed Umtiti, Paco, Gomes, Digne, Cillesen, With the exception of Cillesen, All were 22 years old, All of them had great future potential, And with us having the best trident in the world, We also at that time, Thought we had the complete squad, And many of us expected a treble.............And that never happened, Not in that season, Or the next.
If i were you, I would be cautiously optimistic, At most.
