Manchester City

Everyone here is penciling Madrid to win easily. City topped their group. Not that the Ethiad is a fortress but Madrid have to go there for the second leg.

City could score a couple times at the Bernaleo.

Madrid are not this powerhouse. Their tactic is to cross the ball. Not that intimidating without Ronaldo on the other end....

It's by no means a given that Madrid beat City, but in order to succeed in the CL you need a very reliable defensive structure and City are awful in that regard

I don’t see Madrid as an offensive juggernaut though.

It’s obviously going to be a close tie. City and Pep will not just roll over. Two years without champions league football should be a big enough motivator for them.

You don't need to be an offensive juggernaut to score against them, though. Madrid have the weapons to counter attack and there will be chances for them. Maybe if City had a precedent of success in the CL it would feel different.

Yep and Real is very good defensively this season.

They conceded 8 during the group stages while taking 2nd in their group. Yes Real have been solid defensively in la liga...

Barcelona for reference conceded 4 goals in the group stage while playing tougher opponents and not the starters the 6th match.

There is no narrative for Barca being defensively sound.

Valverde was definitely a defensive coach, though. So he could put in a structure that was boring as hell but could grind us out until we face the hot furnace of knockout away CL games where our players have mental breakdowns

See my post above. Did Real not just concede 4 to Real Sociedad at home?

As if City can’t score goals?

5 of those 8 have been scored by PSG. PSG also scored 4 goals in group stage last year against Liverpool. Group stage PSG is always strong. Add the fact the first game, Real Madrid was far from their current level.

Emptihad is a joke. They're fucked if they don't win at the Bernabeu.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them win at the Bernabeu and then bottle it in front of their empty blue seats. Which will probably mysteriously be twice as empty as usual after the recent events.

Can’t get slated for not being able to win the Champions League without Messi/Xavi/Iniesta/Barca if you’re not in it.
