Hard to choose between him and Vermaelen however

One is an overrated 29y.o crock, the other is a legit Argie talent. 5 years younger, bigger, and more versatile (in that he can play his secondary position better than the Belgian)

Rojo is a natural CB, but can do a job at LB. He's athletic, tenacious, aerially strong and has decent pace. His crossing can be wayward, and sometimes positionally suspect, but nothing that can't be ironed out under a competent manager. He was one of the least fav players of us Albiceleste fans through the WCQs, but his showing at the tournament proper won us all over. The thing about Rojo is that even on a bad day, he won't shy away and 'll make his presence known. So if there is one thing you can't fault him for is his effort. He's one passionate lad, our marcos. ;)

Going by ManU's (&LvG's) track-record with Argies, I'd be skeptical. But if he does join you, I'd wish him all the success.

(He's also one of the only 2 tatooed players I'm fond of, and that a pretty big deal for me given my aversion for skin distortion and those who exercise it)

Rooney is captain with Fletcher as vice captain. I think i am happy with that.

But then by fletch being made vice captain it looks like there will be no more central midfielders being bought in this summer which is annoying. Still nice to see fletcher back and doing well when you take into consideration where he was 2 years ago.

Agreed. I love fletcher, a top bloke and before his illness was a very good player for us, not to mention he's had a good pre-season. Despite all that though, I doubt he'll ever be the player he was, and having him as vice-captain is a worrying sign that Van Gaal is content with leaving the midfield as it is.

Great! Rooney deserves it.

I'd hardly say he deserves it (unless you were being sarcastic), but he is the natural selection when you consider his attributes and experience.

No I wasn't sarcastic. He has been at the club for 10 years and IMO he deserves it.

He's been a great player for us, but the way he carries on when he doesn't get his own way leaves a lot to be desired. He'll never be looked at as a United legend because of that, and that's a shame because he will likely end up as our highest ever goal scorer. When he retires could have been remember in much higher regard than he will be by our fans.

So as a United fan I don't think he deserves it, but that said, I don't think it's a bad decision.

There aren't many alternatives and it's not worth it to hurt Rooney's ego by giving the captaincy to players who are obviously not better choice than him....Van Gaal isn't even aware of the details about what Rooney did in the past to get better contracts...I know Rooney will not go down as absolute legend like Sir Bobby but that would be down to a combination of factors such as not being able to fulfil his potential, promiscuity etc. along with the contract situation......I actually think that his initial concerns about lack of investment and United falling behind was legitimate and club ensured that Rooney stayed at United by giving him a huge contract....His second dispute was down to him being played out of position and being out of favour with Fergie and him getting a pay rise was down to Moyes' incompetence....I just think Rooney getting huge contracts was down to club throwing the money at him instead of trying to fix his concerns...

Like I say, I understand why. I'm just saying I think it's going a bit far to say he 'deserves' it. Personally, bearing in mind the things we have both mentioned I don't think he deserves it, but I do agree that he is probably the best option for now.

Edit- I think it's harsh saying he didn't fulfill his potential btw, he has been excellent for us over his ten years here. So, short of reaching Messi/Ronaldo levels there isn't really much more he could have done to fulfill that 'potential'.
