The pre-season tour saved his United career. Like Fellaini, he has responded to what Van Gaal wants and is doing a great job. I still want another pacey wideman in the summer (Depay) but Young is now a valuable member of the squad.

His insanely high wage may also be a reason for him staying because based on his form last season nobody would've paid that but now United fans will be happy if we renew his contract..

I don't understand why Ribery, Maradonna, Cruyff etc hate him so much. He seems a really pleasant person so far and the whole squad seem to love him. They are signing his praises every interview and all the pundits love him. Was the same with the Dutch squad at the World cup.

Maybe he has changed a lot with age and he might have been quite different in his earlier management stints.

One of the things those three have in common is arrogance.

Yup, it's probably the reason why they don't see eye to eye.

I think the current Man Utd squad needed someone as authoritative and arrogant as LvG to lead them back to the top, since SAF had similar qualities. He fell out with many players too (Keane, Van Nistelrooy, Strachan, Ince, etc.), so it's not like LvG is unique in that aspect.

^Agreed. But I do also think that like Fergie, he has mellowed a bit now that he is in his 60's.

Pre-season tour in the States again as expected. Barca, PSG, Chelsea and Porto are some of the European teams that will be joining us on it. Should be good.

Ribery has a huge ego, as seen on his "I hate him because he doesn't play players based on reputations" rant

Not sure what Maradona has against him, but I've always had a gut feeling that Diego is/was racist

Cruyff just hates everyone that doesn't completely agree with him or his methods

Plus he seems to have mellowed down a bit. United may have lucked out in getting him at this point in his career.

So how will United line up against Chelsea now? Perhaps time or the Mendes boys to shine? Certainly they need a big game from ADM

I think their best possible lineup would be:
Young - Rooney - Mata
-----------ADM
------- Felli - Herrera
Shaw - McNair - Smalling - AV
