English not your first language or comprehension remains a problem

he said that united have probably been the best in the country (england) at developing youth players and not far off of barcelona, he didn't say that we are as good as barcelona at developing youth, read it again if you don't believe me, and then you can apologise for questioning my grasp of the english language and look at yourself first...............

Best in the country at developing players. Well that's debatable. (at present).

Not far off Barca  like Tuncliffe, Cleverley etc can touch barca  Wasn't Ravel Morrison supposed to be the next big thing.

you can debate the validity of fergie's statement about united being not far off barca in youth production if you want to, but don't claim that fergie said things that he didn't say, he has never said that united's youth production is on a par with barca as is being claimed by members in this thread, and who in your opinion has been better then united in england at youth production over the years, if you look in the prem and championship there are a ton of players that came from united, english players, not foreigners poached from abroad by the way.............

In terms of top quality youngsters many teams have produced more than Man Utd since that generation of Beckham, Scholes etc.

I agree he never said it was on par. You are right there.

My point is him saying your youth system is not far behind. Which is total nonsense.

I am not talking about through the years I am talking about youth production today. Arguably Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool have better youth productions in place.

chelsea? give me a break, chelsea's academy has produced absolutely nothing compared to united, most of arsenal's youth are taken from abroad. man city? can't see any youths breaking into that team. spurs? what top players are coming out of there academy? i give credit to everton for all the good players they have produced, liverpool's academy seems to be getting the credit for players that were signed from other clubs such as sterling, suso, pacheco etc, the true academy players like robinson, morgan etc probably won't be good enough.............

Who have Man Utd produced in the last 15 years though? Evans, Fletcher and Wellbeck?

That is not really top class.

While Man Utd sign just as many youngsters from abroad as Arsenal.

Fergus is obviously counting "breaking transfers records for expensive and well-known youngstars" as "developing youth". But in that case Real Madrid has the best youth development ever:

Coentrao (23)
Özil (21)
Di Maria (22)
Khedira (23)
Benzema (21)
Higuain (18)
Marcelo (18)
Ramos (19)

Ignoring the little detail that they cost ~ € 170 million and none of them learned their football in Madrid's youth ranks. As if City now bought Götze, Neymar and Thiago and 10 years later started to claim that they "developed" them.

The academy points are moot until the EPPP changes can be felt. With the 90 minute rule being in place up until now, it's been too much of a lottery to really glean anything from academy products alone. And that's before you take into account the severe restriction of coach contact time that have only just been lifted.

barcelona have free reign to take the best spanish youngsters from anywhere in spain and put them into the academy, compare that to english clubs such as united who have had ridiculous restrictions like the 90 minute rule to contend with until now. In case you don't know what the 90 minute rule was, academies were only allowed to sign players aged under 18 if they resided within 90 minutes travel of the training facility, under those circumstances it is no surprise that so many more home grown players come from the barcelona academy then united's, it is to be expected. now that the restrictions in england have been loosened you will see home grown players of a higher quality coming through english club academies as clubs will be able to cast the net much further afield to look for talented english youngsters, and these youngsters will no doubt become better players as a result by training with top level coaches and facilities instead of being stuck at lower league club academies. it is not in the d.n.a of spanish people to be better footballers then english people, it is simply about talented youngsters being spotted at an early age and being given world class facilities and coaching for them to improve.

Man Utd like every other club in England largely got over those rules and they only really applied up until the age of 16 as players would be put in digs close enough by then.

While Man Utd also relocated families like they did with Johnny Evans when they moved to Manchester.

Even with the similar rules in place to England Barcelona would have still brought through Xavi, Fabregas, Pique, Puyol, Messi, Busquets, Tello, Cuenca, Valdes etc, and a lot more on top of that.
