Marcelo

He's turned into a bitter player. He was on his way to become an awesome Left Back, and he is but he won't get anywhere with this mentality. Too many players aren't made for Real Madrid because results aside, the pressure is massive. Carlos for instance, never lost his cool, ever and he has been through a worse time than Marcelo.

There is a loss in ideals here at the club and even if we win the league I will be a little disappointed as the defeat to Barcelona is bitter and I am afraid all the built up frustration will reinforce false sense of entitlement.

Good thing it is not the entire team because Xabi, Higuain, Casillas, Kaka, Benzema, Ramos, Di Maria, Lass among a few more might have been involved in altercations but never absorbed any douchyness. Marcelo though I feel is losing himself, Ronaldo was broken on Saturday, Pepe is unstable, Coentrao was already very hot blooded and I feel he will turn bitter soon. Ozil just shies away or accept being bettered.

I was hoping Mourinho would make better use of Callejon, Granero and Arbeloa. They can be wild, sometimes aggressive but they never shy away. They don't take matters personal and that is the problem with some of the Madrid players.

All the douche players you mentioned speak Portuguese, coincidence?

only in as much as it is the language of Jorge Mendes, who is their agent and feeds this sense of entitlement they have. and also causes the horrible bitterness to come to the forth when it doesn't all go their way. Di Maria is a Mendes boy too, yet he seems to be on a very even keel.

Iker, Higuain, Xabi and Kaka are too good for that team. and even Benzema the whoremonger just seems out of place now.

and I just feel sad for Iker. it's not because of all the losing, but because his team is being bastardised in front of his very eyes and he's powerless to stop it as Mendes has created a large and powerful enough cabal of players that Iker can't just call them out.

Raed is spot-on about Marcelo's bitterness. he's such a fabulous player, but the best players in the World can't be such snarling bitter douchebags. especially if they're Brazilians. I mean he was such a smiley happy kid. I remember when he scored that belter for Brazil (pre-Real) he was just so happy. what has Mendes done to him? :(

Falcao has Jorge Mendes as his agent and he's not a douche. Maybe he treats his Spanish language players differently?

And Brazilians have been snarling douches with a sense of entitlement for quite some time now. It started with the Santos generation of Robinho and company, Diego is the poster boy for over-entitled douchebags.

And  about Iker not being a douchebag, this is a guy so bitter he voted for Ozil ahead of Messi.

Feels like it's been so long that RM have had so many douche players on their side that I scarcely can recall the ones with class - like Iker...And you can't put it all on a bunch of Portuguese or Mendes kabal of players - leadership at the club has been absent for long enough...From Perez & his Galactico policies to Calderon & deceipt right back to Perez all over again...No one is interested in changing the culture there, Iker is a relic at a club that has been obsessed from trying to take away the glory from their Catalan nemesis

They've looked a petty club for me and it's only gotten worse...You never even hear the voices of reason from that camp to go a different direction, I think that says it all

maybe. like I said, Di Maria may dive like a mentalist but he seems alright generally.

Robinho's not snarling, though. yeah the entitlement has been running heavy since 2002, but Marcelo brings a real negativity that isn't present elsewhere. real shame.

well he's Madrid through-and-through, so of course he'll be a bit bitter & bias. but I don't think he's a douchebag.

Marcelo is apparently a very likeable character in the Madrid camp. He also seems like a fun character when in the right mood.

I just thing most of his antics are due to him being a very, very bad loser.

That combined with Mourinho's influence and him still being a kid is a really bad mix.

The exact same can be said about Ramos who you apparently like.:)

Come on, just a bad loser?...That whole Getafe debacle, RM had won...Marcelo is a douche, there's no qualifying it

People still call Casillas a class act after all the whinning he has done in the last year?! He was on the front line of Madrid whinners after several Clasicos. The only class acts in the current Real team are Higuain, Kaka and Benzema (though I don't like the guy but he had never acted like a douche).

This..Iker is the one who dissapointed me the most..if you watch the Supercup again, at the end he was arguing very badly with Xavi and made some bad signs to the ref(like they have been robbed..again). When I see their capitain's behavior and then I see our Puyol(who in the 24 sec was encouraging everybody), my heart cries with joy.
The only players that I really respect from them are Higuain and Benzema:wub:..I really would have liked to see the french in a blaugrana kit. He has too much class for that team full of douchebags.

Vote of confidence, as much of an insult as voting his rival. Its politics, you of all people should know better how this works.

Eh? This is sports after all, what the hell do you expect? You never played football before? Casillas will speak out, he will say things that do not appeal to you every once in a while but hardly anything to hold against him. Your camp was spewing a lot of shit through key players when things got tough but its nothing to hold against them because we all know that when all is settled, a lot of these players are in fact class.

As for that fat agent, I don't know. Maybe he does have an influence that I am unaware of, maybe Perez is allowing too much freedom within the club. All I know is that no Madrid player can be blamed for not trying, or accused of not working hard because they are in fact, are. It is just that matters have hit a nerve on a personal level. Achievements are also personal. A lot of these players want to take it to Barcelona, personally. That is what is keeping the team from gelling to the full extent. There is also a hierarchy in the club, and Ronaldo is at the pinnacle of it (I sound like I am hating on him too much but I am not). Then there are groups formed due to popularity and financial discrimination, exemplified in Benzema's unfair wages. For all of Messi's achievements, he doesn't even hold top three positions within the club. Seniority doesn't play a role in Madrid anymore, nor does maturity, nor does identity.

Besides Casillas and Xabi, there is no other worthy captain. Xabi should be taking freekicks, but Ronaldo is on top of every single one of them. At all times, Barcelona has three captains on the field, and I am not even considering Messi or Iniesta in these three. Puyol, Valdes, Xavi are always ever present, when one of them is missing, Abidal has been a leader. Why Abidal? Because he is a mature person, and if he wasn't, Puyol would have never given him the rare moment of lifting the CL trophy; even if he had over come cancer.

The players below Casillas and Xabi that deserve captaincy have grown up at Madrid with a huge turn over, and without much guidance on the pitch. Xabi is only a recent acquisition by the way so its only Casillas who has been ever present and even his entourage has been dissolved. The rightful bearer of the captaincy is Ramos, but he is only 25. He has it in him to become captain, but its too early and someone like Fernando has never been there for Ramos. Helguera was let go, as was Carlos and those should have preferably been pursued to stay involved somehow, to nurture the talents like Ramos. But he is only 1 year older than I am and has been stuck through good and bad times a lone most of the time.

The Super Copa proved to me that Barcelona on a football level is not unplayable, Madrid have played them and to a certain extent matched them. What is unparalleled is the mental strength and the perseverance and endurance. Mourinho will continue to be mocked, its understandable, but I know he did the right thing with Madrid and there is nothing more that he, or anyone else can do. Its man for man on the pitch, and it got to the player's head. Unfortunately.

What Madrid needs to do is have someone professional psyche the players into winning mode. The pressure at Madrid is at the highest anywhere in the world, even legends have been known to get psychiatric treatment before and after matches. Marcelo, Ronaldo, and Ozil sure as hell need some help. If I am not mistaken, I think Capello used that method and it worked out very well for him.

Again, I read so many things here Cules have wrote and its so far from truth about Madrid. Either these people are bitter themselves, or new to the game, or biased or simple too opinionated or have grown a superiority complex. Either way, so much talk has been revolved around tactics, and all that shit but for those who know Madrid too well, or know the history of the two clubs would know its rarely about the quality of football, or quality of the teams, to some extent the coaches, its 90% political. Be it external or internal is usually defined by the era, this time around it sure as hell internal.

PS. Even though I said Madrid can play Barcelona and beat them, I still think Barcelona are superior. And Messi is on another level.
