It was not an insult in any way.
BVB won the Bundesliga twice in the last four years, went to the CL final as well, yet they are not able to sign the top tier players. The CAN however develop second tier players to become top tier players.
The same is true for Atletico, who have similar constraints as BVB when it comes to monetary power and prestige.

What about letting players do what they want instead of trying to decide for them? Because what you just said is exactly what some MU fans say about Hummels. As if BvB was not a top club.

As Ryu said, BvB is a top club even if their model is not the same as other top clubs, and despite what people are saying or trying to imply just because they hope that BvB players will join their preferred teams.

You don't reach a CL final while winning the league twice in four years just by being a middle tier club.

When did I ever say that BVB isn't a top club? Or Atletico, for that matter.

But they're pretty much the only top clubs that aren't "big corporation type clubs". And they won't be top clubs forever.

Atletico was a top club years ago before their debt troubles. And BVB won the CL in 1997 and ran into debt issues. After Bayern bailed them out, they were able to return to the top.

The fact that you say that neither were top clubs until recent times shows the extent of your footballing knowledge to be honest.
